southern illinios
Hi and welcome to Illinois and the USA. I think cost of living here is pretty cheap compared to other parts of the country, affordable housing etc. Our winters can be bad but have been very mild the last several years. I live in central Illinois now but am originally from southern part of the state. What part of southern Illinois are you moving to?

Is there anybody on here from Southern Illinois just curious

LPN doesn't want dying patient to go to hospice.
I don't think you made a mistake at all. You did what you thought was right for your pt. When/if she dies soon you will sleep well at nite knowing you tried to ease the transition for her and her family. You only suggested......anytime you advocate for a pt you should be proud of yourself as it is rarely the popular decision with everyone involved.

I have a question for all of you nurses out there
Most nursing schools do require a computer class as a pre-req....I'd keep it

doesn't matter where the secretions are, the meds work systemically

HELP New Neuro-ICU nurse
Matt you hang in there!!! This is only your second day taking 2 pt's and your preceptor probably wasn't born an ICU nurse either. Those that like to make you think they were are only trying to cover their own poor self esteem issues. Rmember the first rule of nursing is "ABOVE ALL ELSE DO NO HARM" SO IF THAT MEANS IT TAKES YOU SOME TIME AND QUESTIONS THEN SO BE IT.....oooh these kind of nurses that eat their young make me so mad......you'll do fine, just think in logical terms and remember 1. safety, 2.ABC's Good luck to you

frothy sputum often means pulmonary edema, suctioning probably wouldn't have helped much. Our hospice orders are for scopalomine patches for increase in secretions for comfort.. She was 95 and FTT. You make a visit and got orders........did you report your findings to the doc? If so then it was what you should have done. We never send pt's to ER unless they fall or have some sort of trauma. Just do our best to treat sx at home or in the NH and support the family.

Advice for a prospective summer intern?
I had a first year intern last year. He was great and extremely intelligent. Here's why, He relaxed and understood that I didn't expect him to be a neuro nurse ( you are a student and should not be expected to know everything, esp., since none of us know EVERYTHING) You are there to learn and observe and assist with supervision. IF your preceptor is a good one he/she will help to mold your knowledge and understanding..REMEMBER no one was born a neuro nurse. I would expect my intern to be able to understand beyond a basic level at the end of an internship and answer and give rationales for any nursing school questions on an exam.

I knew it wasn't right while I was doing it...
I live and work in Illinois, an RN..depends on situation, home care, hopital or nursing home

I'm tired of it! I had enough!
