Okay...well you ever have one of those days where things are beyond nuts, and you are on low sugar or caffiene and you make your patients crack up so hard due to your gitty-ness??? Well I did today...and it was hillarious!
I had this patient in with r/o meningitis viral. It was ruled out thank goodness and this lovely 40 something year old woman was going to be discharged. She and I had spoken at length about her daughter wanting to go into nursing school but was turned off badly by messing up in Anatomy/Physiology! Gee..who hasn't been there huh?
SO I gave her some hints on books, teachers, and web sites, told her about this place...and really encouraged her. I think I got 100% through to her!!!!! YEAH!!!!!
Well...after all that I guess the son (who was in the room also at discharge) wanted to be an MD. SO I came in with our disposible gown, mask, and gloves all signed by me as "doc in the making!", and "Nurse in training" for the daughter (all college age) with hillarious stuff stuck on the gowns (like tape, mom's cleaned disposable steth, bandaids, a disposable thermometer, etc) and presented them with it in hillarous overdone Mrs. America style presentation!!!!!!!!! The family was laughing sooooooooo hard!!!!!!! It was a great send off...and I had too much fun!
The mom was so very happy with my talk and presentation that she about cried (well did cry after laughing so hard! LOL!). She couldn't find the words to tell me how wonderful that was...and she didn't need to. A little bit of fun for the now, and the future!
My fellow nurses cracked up and said it was sooooo me! LOL! I won't be surpised if this happened again some day and not by me! LOL!
It is kinda funny the ways we have to just get gitty and have a bit of fun isn't it????
What funny things have you done when you are feeling rather gitty????
