Some questions about Central Florida Nursing programs

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi. I'm a pre-nursing student and I'm looking to go to nursing school in central Florida.

I live in East Orlando and I have to stay here. I own my house and am married with kids and my hubby has a good job so I'm looking for affordable options preferably for a BSN programs as I already have an AA.

My first choice is UCF because its close to my house and has a part time option. Second is the SCC accelerated program. Third is Valencia though I rather not get another AssociAte degree.

Am I mssing any options other than FL hospital college? (I can't afford them!)

Also, does anyone know if fOr any of these programs there is a time limit to how long pre-reqs are good for? I haven't found anything in the handbooks online.

Thanks!!

SSC and Valencia both have a concurrent program with UCF. That is your other option. SSC does not offer an accelerated program that I am aware of. I got my general AA degree there.

I am also going back to school for nursing and have been taking the prerequisites at SSC and was planning on going for their UCF concurrent program. The concurrent program is not accelerated but takes about 2.5 years to complete from what I gather. Valencia now has the same program. I hear that both of these programs are competitive to get into from reading the posts on this site and hope that I am accepted next year.

In regards to other programs all I know of are VCC, SCC, UCF, Florida Hosipital College of Health Sciences (supposedly expensive and has not gotten good reviews), and Central Florida Community College in Ocala (just an A.A). Of course there are the private schools but they are really expensive like FHCHS, Keiser, Remington, etc.

Most of my prereqs were completed about 10 years ago and I have spoken with an advisor at SCC and she did not mention that being a problem. Most of my science prereqs I am taking or have taken in the last year (Micro, AP 1 and 2, Nutrition, Medical Terminology) I think those are the ones that they are most concerned about being fresh in your brain. ;)

I hope that helps and good luck to you.
