  1. Hey, I was hoping that someone who got into UCF's BSN program could help me. I already have my A.A. from Valencia. I've confirmed with UCF that prerequisites do not expire (so even if you took classes 10 years ago, they still count). I still have to take General Chem, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Microbiology and Human Nutrition before I apply. So, my question is.... did any one here take these courses at Valencia or Seminole or other "community" college and get into UCF? The course #'s do not match. An advisor told me that they generally accept these courses but I want to be sure I'm not hurting myself. I really hope so because I do work and UCF's class schedule sucks for working adults. I understand that I'll eventually have to quit to go to nursing school but I don't want to have to quit just for pre-reqs. Not to mention, it's cheaper at Valencia, smaller classes and generally much more supportive (I've taken classes at both schools).
  2. When I had my baby, my nurse told me to take a blanket and to clear out the bassinet since all of that stuff would be thrown out other wise. I'm glad as I cherish that little baby blanket :-)
  3. I'm still waiting for schools to re-open so I can find out how long pre-reqs are good for... but in the mean time. How universal are pre-reqs from state to state? I'm in Central FL and in general the pre-reqs are Human Anatomy/Physiology, Microbiology, and Human Nutrition... a couple of schools include Sociology, Chemistry and then various Liberal Arts (which are generally covered by my A.A.) like Humanities, Psych, College Algebra, Statistics etc... My husband and I talk about moving back to Illinois. I'm not sure it will ever happen, but if it did, how much would I mess myself up if I had already started taking pre-reqs? This issue could postpone when I start taking pre-reqs no matter what the schools around here say about the time frame. Which ones are "safe" ones? I don't mind taking a couple of extra classes but I don't want to have taken a whole bunch of classes extra if I'll end up not needing them.
  4. Thanks. I am inevitably getting some flack from some of my friends who see things differently but they made the choice best for THEM and I need to make a choice that's best for me and my family. Yes, if I were younger I'd wait... but since I need a a year to do pre-reqs plus at least 2 years of nursing school... that would be 3 years and I wouldn't be working during that time. So I'd have to work at least a year just to pay for school... there's 4 years... and I want more than just 1 other child. Then I'd end up taking off who knows how many years to have and raise my babies (into school preferably) before I can even focuson my career. I just rather focus on this.... then focus on that... and not feel torn up about it. I just know I'll be miserable the other way around. I'm kinda getting annoyed at other people's opinions and need to share them (not on here, just in my life).
  5. Hi. I'm a pre-nursing student and I'm looking to go to nursing school in central Florida. I live in East Orlando and I have to stay here. I own my house and am married with kids and my hubby has a good job so I'm looking for affordable options preferably for a BSN programs as I already have an AA. My first choice is UCF because its close to my house and has a part time option. Second is the SCC accelerated program. Third is Valencia though I rather not get another AssociAte degree. Am I mssing any options other than FL hospital college? (I can't afford them!) Also, does anyone know if fOr any of these programs there is a time limit to how long pre-reqs are good for? I haven't found anything in the handbooks online. Thanks!!
  6. I'll find out... I didn't think of that. I sure hope not because my Humanities requirements, English and Psych are all from another life time. I really hope I don't have to take those again. They were a pain enough the first time I took them. I'm searching through the application stuff and thus far there is no mention as to a time frame for classes. It does say that the TEAS should be within 5 years. I'll call the program and find out. Thanks! If yes, then I suppose I'll figure when I'm about 5 years out and start worrying about pre-reqs and the like then. I guess I should figure out how long all this baby making might take me (though I know I can't plan too carefully with things like this). I was REALLY stressing out about this. I was so worried about making the wrong decision about school.... but, when I thought about my priorities I realized that if I some how never get to Nursing School, I'll be bummed, but if I never have any more children, I'll be devastated! Also, I'm 30. My daughter is 15 months old. I don't want to be raising children into my retirement. I'm looking forward to the "end" years of life when I can just be with my husband again. Anyhoo... let me go research that pre-req's business. Thanks again.
  7. Hi everyone! I'm new here though I've been "lurking" for some time now. I am currently not even a "Pre-Nursing" student as I've yet to take any pre-requisites. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning on going to Nursing School, but for whatever reason, won't be doing it any time soon? I thought about this a lot and spoke to a few nurses (even one who teaches at our local university) and have decided to wait on Nursing School for the time being. My husband and I want to have more children (we have 1) and the time frame that we would like to have children doesn't work with me taking my pre-req's, then waiting (there's a long waiting list at my community college for the RN program). So we decided that we're going to try for our next kid in the next year to 18 months, wait a while then try for the next (and probably last) kid. When I'm comfortable leaving that kid, I'll go to nursing school and spend time working on my nursing career. I'll probably be around 40 at that point. In the mean time I'll be taking my pre-reqs (I have an A.A. so I just need Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology and Human Nutrition). I know that it puts my nursing career on hold, but I really don't want to learn a bunch of stuff and then NOT use them or feel torn between my kids and my career when they're so little. Anyway.... I'm sure others will feel differently about it but we all have to decide what our priorities are :-)
