I'm not a practicing professional yet, but that said, I also have a sociology minor and am in my second semester of nursing school. I think my sociology classes have helped me tremendously in understanding different kinds of patients I may be taking care of. Often we will be incorporating some of the same concepts in Health Promotion or one of the nursing theory courses and some people, who haven't taken sociology, seem to have trouble understanding how people's economic status, education level, environment, race, gender, and sexuality affect their health status and how they respond to the health care system. Go for it! I took a class called Marriage and Family, which is similar I think, and it was a really interesting course.
If you have a good professor, I don't think you'll regret it! The only reason why I ended up with a sociology minor is because I had to stay in school for a year while I waited to get into the program, and it opened up my eyes to a lot of issues people face that nurses have to work with when giving care.
I'm actually in it right now, an online version for the summer. To be honest, I'm not getting much out of it but that could just be because it's online. I hate online classes but that's just what worked out for me right now. Not a bad class and a good option for a humanities elective though.

Mine will be online as well. I love online. But I also believe you will get out of a course whatever you put into it. I really like sociology/psychology stuff. So, I'm hoping I'll love it

True but I put 110% into every class...just some come to me better than others. It's just not all that interesting or challenging to me but with your likes, you probably will enjoy it :)

As anyone taken this class? Would it be beneficial to my nursing career? I need to fill in with two classes this coming up semester and I noticed this class. It seems very interesting. They have a death and dying class but it isn't offered online this semester.
I'll have:
US history II
Basic nursing practicum 1
Healthcare assessment practicum
Hospital measurements
Sociology of the family
