I'm pretty much a laid back, quiet until I get to know you kind of person but I have made friends with three amazing girls in my program and I am so grateful I have because we keep each other grounded, on top of things, and we're in the same Skills Lab and Clinical groups (for this Term, crossing our fingers for next Term) so we buddy up with each other often. They see the silly, sarcastic, fun side of my that the rest of the class doesn't get to see. If I had not become friends with them I probably would continue to just stick to myself, keep quiet, but rock out A's on all my exams

During our final orientation we were introduced to our Senior Buddy. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of the whole Student Buddy thing (even if they are in the 2nd year). We are assigned an Advisor who is a Faculty member and I see myself speaking with them more about any issues I would have with things pertaining to lectures or skills labs, than going to a fellow student.

I got my Littmann from them, with the free engraving. They are fast with shipping. I ordered my Littmann on the 7/26, received it 7/27 and this was with their cheapest shipping option. Great company, I will be ordering another from them this month. From what I have been told, always have a back up Littmann and in another cute color :)

Our Clinicals are 8.5hr days, two days in a row. And this is for a Hospital Based Program. Guess every program is different. If you are concerned about gaining more experience I'd suggest looking into a Preceptorship and/or Externship. Good Luck!

Hmmmm...I am not a fan of Bleach (never use it) but Baking Soda with a good Concentrated Detergent may work...I know it helped me when I spilled coffee on my white skinny jeans this summer, can't even tell where the spill occured

I say go for it! You will love the course, it's very helpful and informative because afterall you will not only be treating the patient but the family as well so having some knowledge about different structures is always helpful. I have a Bachelors in Sociology/Pre Law

Check out the AHA website, they have tons of courses listed for BLS-AED for Healthcare Providers. If you can do it in person go for it, but like most are saying here you will have to do the skills portion with a certified instructor if you do the online option. Personally, I'd just get it over with during a 4 hour session. Makes life a little easier.

Although I am not a Nurse yet (Fall 2012 Student), these stories remind me of my Grandfather and his experiences with Nurses. He resided in a very posh assisted living facility where he had Nurse care. He had three of the best (and prettiest) Nurses ever, but he would toss $50.00 bills at them all the time! I used to crack up. But he did say to me: "Just wait til you're a Nurse, Beauties like you get proposals and big bills tossed at them all the time. You'll make a fortune!" :rotfl:

Microbiology is BORING.GOV! The only interesting thing to me was the last portion of the course where we reviewed all the diseases, etc and actually doing a CSI type experiment where we went through the actual steps of "streaking out DNA on Gel". Other than that, I struggled to stay awake in that class (and it was an afternoon course too) but I passed with a B :w00t:and swore to never look back. Good Luck! Image from CSI Lab Experiment:

My ultimate goal/dream is to become a Chief Nursing Officer (Director of Nursing) and to start my own Legal Nurse Consulting business. I would love to work in Trauma, ICU, Oncology, and Hospice

I bought a pair of Nurse Mates Bryar in White, but I also received a pair of Dansko Professional in White as a gift so I'm grateful I have two pairs of shoes to alternate between. Both are super comfy!

UPDATE: I spoke with my Mother and Uncle last night regarding Externships vs. Preceptorships in Tucson. They both advised seeking out a Preceptorship at UAMC or any of the areas Hospitals/Medical Center or even Private Practices. Externships are more competitive and priority is given to residents and students of U of A, whereas Preceptorships are not as competitive to get but usually in the hospital/med center setting there needs to be approved via a chain of command. Their advice is to looked up the various hospitals, medical centers, even doctors in private practice and let them know you are interested in a preceptorship and cross your fingers for a Yes. Getting ready for Orientation II & III the end of this month. Officially begin on August 6th...and today I just got one of the most expensive (and heaviest) birthday presents from my Mother - ALL 15 OF OUR REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS! Happy Birthday to Me...I think :cheers:

Hi! My Mother and Step-Father are Deans/Professors at U of A and I know they have a Nursing School. My Mother actually works cosely with the Dean of the Nursing School for research purposes, etc so I will ask her if she knows of any externships they recommend in the area. Added bonus - my Step-Father's brother is the head Peds Cardiologist at the hospital out there so I'll check with him to see how someone can get into the hospital on an externship basis. DO NOT get discouraged or give up, just use this time to study your ass off for the TEAS. I'm not sure if you purchased the study guide with the free online assessments from ATI but do so if you have not (I think it's like $45). It really helps because the questions and exam mirror the kind of questions on the TEAS. Roxborough is a great program and worth getting into. Retake the TEAS, reapply, and I'm crossing my fingers for you :hug:
