Sober 6 years and looking to work in the hospital

Nurses Recovery

Published

Looking for any feedback or experiences from someone who has been here.

I was fired from a hospital in 2009 for diversion. I denied it until I was blue in the face and the board dropped the case. i was only working there a few hours on the weekends and going to CRNA school during the week. Over the next year my addiction reached its climax and I was using as much as I could get, as often as I could get it. Luckily I had two wonderful friends in the Crna program with me who saw what I was doing and forced me to seek help or they would turn me in. I went to a treatment center for a year after that. When I left treatment I called the alternative drug recovery program (kare) for nurses in KY and was accepted. Fast forwarding... It is exactly 5 years later and I am completing the KARE program this week, and am graduating as an acute care aprn next month. My concern is that the nephrology group I want to work with is mainly in the hospital that fired me. Are there any chances of getting my credentials there if I am completely honest and up front with them? I really really want this job. My sobriety date is January 11, 2010, and I am working the program.

Be honest. What do you have to lose?

If you don't at least try and go somewhere else, you will always stay wondering what could have been. Good luck!
