We are transitioning from soarian to cerner. currently, our ratios will give each nurse 5 (some days 4, some days 6) and we're a very busy ortho/neuro/med-surg with an average acuity of 3. (Out of 4 scale)
I just got home from the first day of cerner training (we get 2 days 7hrs each) and I'm so overwhelmed and I have to say I'm a little scared.
Currently, it takes me about 10-15 min to do meds/vitals/assessment/charting for each pt.
Im worried there's so much double charting, and it will take time away from my patients.
I'd like to know everyone else's opinion, how did/do you like it compared to soarian, how long it takes to get used to it etc.
thanks everyone!

Soarian sucks. Cerner will be better. It's normal to feel overwhelmed. That will probably not go away until you have been live for several weeks. Millions of healthcare workers have gone through it, and you will too.
Can you elaborate on "sucks" and "better"?
From the training classes, it seems as though charting will be longer and more difficult as well as discharges more time consuming. Charting the same thing multiple times or reviewing with the patient, walking across the unit to get a paper from the printer, walking back to have them sign it then walking back again to make a copy and returning a 3rd time to give them their copy.
Additionally, it seems hard to review education previously given and I feel as though there will be a lot of missed education, or IPOCs because of the time it will take away from the patient.
Also, the "real time" charting. In my unit this is not a reality. And if there are 6 patients, next to impossible.

I had no problem with Cerner, and I did not even have a computer to learn on! They had so many people in the class, some of us had to learn without an actual computer.
What system did you use before?
I couldn't imagine not having a class. I would be so lost!!
The bridge for ancillary forms, and not pre-printing our MRI forms are small examples of how massive this is going to change our workflow.
