So, who are you?

  • Guides

40 years ago, the first thing out of my newly graduated mouth was "I'm a nurse!".

Over the years, that has changed:

I am a: Christian, wife (well widow now), mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse, teacher, dog lover (have 3 at the moment), Scout leader, crocheter, hiker, traveler .....

So, who are you? How do you define yourself?  Where is nurse in that list? Have fun!

I never defined myself as a nurse. I only told people who asked first, what so you do etc. I am a Christian, wife, mother and grandmother, also sister, niece and Aunt, hiker (used to backpack but at the end of the day hotels are now preferred to dirt and tents), painter, photographer, and I like to watch crime dramas, and as soon as Covid has left us I will travel again (which I love). Also, like Broadway shows and Phantom! Mostly I consider myself a sojourner here on earth until He calls me home (oh happy day!) Oh, and a retired nurse.

Sometimes, Emergent, we have to backslide before we can forge forward.

This is probably true for most of us humans

Also a backsliding Christian

I have backslid so far I don't know I will ever come back! (as a Christian)

It is never too late!

Fantastic question.

I'm a husband, I'm a naturalised Frenchman, I'm a European, I'm an Internationalist, I'm a nurse, I'm a union rep, I'm a socialist, I'm an atheist, I'm a humanist, I'm out and proud, I'm a thinker, , I'm a foodie, I'm a wine lover, I'm a beer lover, I'm a whiskey connaisseur, I'm a dreamer, I'm a stroke survivor, I'm an optimist, I'm counting the days to retirement.

33 years on I am still very proud of the "I'm a nurse"

an avid fan of British mysteries,

I do hope that includes "Vera"?

I am a Christian, working a recovery program, a wife to my best friend, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a lover of the outdoors, avid reader, a student of life.

I am a nurse of 12 years but that is something I am grappling with at the moment.   I feel an insurmountable amount of disappointment within my profession.   I am incredibly proud of what I have done within my career I am just not sure if I want to keep doing it.

Seriously DavidFR- please do share your life stories. It sounds as though you are  one interesting frog!

Maybe an idea for a thread...

I’m a nurse (I don’t know if that necessarily always comes first but it is BIG for me; I’m so proud of being a nurse) and a wife to someone that, as of this year, I’ve known for fully half my life.

I’m mother to an Only Child (I find that that is a specific type of parenting. Much like some Twin Moms feel a kinship with other Twin Moms, I feel an immediate bond with anyone who has an only child). I’m smart and bookish and always get As in things. I am ridiculously non-athletic and uncoordinated; you should have seen me trying to handle medical equipment in clinicals, I was a hazard. I’m outdoorsy and I love to be with my little family on our canoe.

This is amazing. My husband and I like to read novels aloud together and sometimes we turn to each other and say “Can you believe that people will sit down and, like, write a whole book?”  Good for you! That takes so much commitment.

A fiancée, cat mom, knitter, and crocheter in progress.

I'm a mom first in my life, to my kids and my dogs. Everything else is in a bit of a state of flux.

Oh I'm those too!!

I am a wife. My husband on his (constant?) conference calls often informs his colleagues that "My wife is a nurse..."

I am a coffee addict. I have no desire to quit, and aside from headaches does not negatively affect my life... I figure I'll be like my grandmother and die days after my last sip..

Probably "gamer" would be up there on my list. I can literally sit on my couch and play for 20 hours straight. I only play 1 or 2 games.

Could be "geek", am in some "geek" groups. I like sci-fi and fantasy, but not a huge "fan-girl".

I have family, but little contact with them (no children). I have a brown thumb that has tried repeatedly to have a garden or plants - I think I realized that I dislike the insects outside, heat, humidity and the sun - so perhaps gardening is not for me. I like hiking and outdoors (but again, bugs/sun).. I like cats (have a thing for Calicos), currently have 3 (one calico). I did crochet for a while, now I have boxes of yarn.
