So your a Nurse, But if you weren't!?

which course would you do?

hello men and women who proudly wear white.

how are you ?;)

i have been trying to get into the health profession for quite sometime having worked in business for quite a while. my gpa is good but i can't seem to get into a program having tried at bmcc and laguardia community. i am thinking about fully committing myself to my studies by quitting my full time position and working part time. that part time position must be something within my intended field of nursing or hospital environment.

to do that i was thinking about doing a certification type course for preparedness

if you had to do a certification and based on your experience within the hospital

which certification would you get and why

please note the following

phlebotomy technician

medical biller

certified nurse's aide

pharmacy assistant

ekg technician

nurse technician

medical assistant

dialysis technician

thanks guys

cheers

Pre-hospital would be my first choice. You learn to work as a team, you learn assessment skills and you learn how to function under stress. Communication skills are also important as you are the eyes for the docs when calling for orders. It sure helped me and the training was free as I volunteered at first while working another job.

EKG tech would be my second choice as I really like cardiac patients. You would learn cardiac medications and rhythms. You would learn how to be relaxed in an uncomfortable situation for the patient as they have to take their shirts off to get a 12 lead EKG. You would also learn how to communicate an immediate need for attention to a physician.

Agreed... EMT is a good choice, as is EKG Tech.

However, I'd go the MA or CNA route. You'll get a wider array of pt issues, and you'll work more directly with licensed professionals.

Also, as a MA, you work directly under the MDs license; IOW, you can do whatever they are willing to train you to do, and assume liability for.
