So nervous!

I have my first resident on saturday and i am so nervous. I am not sure what to do! lol But seriously we have no real set of directions. The only thing I know is that he is scheduled to have a shower. Thats it! I mean, do I go in and see how he is doing, help hand out food trays? Do I focus completely on him, or do i sort of make sure he has what he needs and then help others. Och I guess i will figure it out, i am just so freakin nervous!! Wish me luck!

Go in and ask him what he needs. Try to round at least everytwo hours on him and take the chance to learn how to socialize with a resident.

Then if you have time you can help out the other CNAs

My best advice is to just be as helpful to him as possible without seeming too pushy. One thing we as CNA's need to remember is that we just allow the resident/patient to have as much indepence as possible. Some residents/patients may get offended if you bother them too often. I agree with the every 2 hours. Of course, if you need to find work to do, ask other CNA if they need help with their load.

Do you only have one resident to take care of that day??? If so, that's really helpful. Having several can be a handful.

Good luck!
