So many obstacles..........

Published

Ok so I overcame the first [major] obstacle...getting accepted to a program YAY!!!

[i start in October]

Then it was the next obstacle of financial aid. I'm not qualified for much in the form

of grants/scholarships, etc [fafsa] so I've been winging it with fed. student loans. Had

a meeting w/the nursing financial advisor. FINAL acceptance is contingent upon [among

other things] a financial aid plan. I still had $3900 per qtr OUT OF POCKET to come up

with. So, for Oct-June $9600. Yes. Only $600 of that goes towards books! After

much fighting and stress, I finally qualified for a private student loan. Another YAY!!:yeah:

Now, I'm having to find the money to cover the rest of the books...$900...a total of

$1500 max. Yes. [my school is private so this may have a lot to do with it]. I'm deter-

mined and I know it will happen but DANG....one major obstacle/stressor after another!!

And of course none of this includes FEES:banghead: I know I can save money on the books but

1)we don't have book list yet and 2)that 1st $600 covered by the private loan has to be

spent at my school...I don't get the check. And we all know the school's bookstore is

always substantially more than amazon, half, bigwords, or any of the other sites i get

my books!!

Guess I'm just venting but I thought getting accepted was the biggest obstacle/biggest

stressor next to the NCLEX!!! Anyone else out there struggling???? And already :banghead:

Congrats on the acceptance!

The cost pays off in the end, it's worth it.

As far as the NCLEX goes, on step at a time. Just think about acining your classes first.

Good luck

Oh yea, books and supplies are expensive

I feel ya. I honestly thought waiting for my acceptance letter would be the worst part...but the worst part for me has been trying to get financial aid to cover not only my tuition/books but also my living expenses!

I STILL don't know what I am going to do to come up with enough money..and I start school Aug 24th!!!!! Yikes.

Good luck to you....Let's keep chugging along, we'll figure it out!!!!!! :heartbeat

Thanks ya'll....it's a tough situation but I knew ya'll would understand or

that there would be at least someone that was going through the same

thing.

Kjsquared...we WILL keep going and things WILL work out in the end,

even though we may not know HOW at this point. Good luck to you as

well:heartbeat

That's crazy!!! My school is $79/credit hour. Basically around $8500 for a two year nursing degree. Books can get expensive but you can always buy used on the internets and save a nice penny. I waited an extra year to get in to this school because of not only the cost but also NCLEX pass rated are higher than most other schools (public or private) in my state. I would never ever pay the insane tuition of most of these private schools!!!

I'm with you. I just got notice Wednesday that I was moved off the waiting list at the 11th hour (they don't move anyone off after July 31st) and now i'm scrambling to come up with $$ to get everything I need prior to the first day of class. I really didn't think i'd be moving off of the wait list. I'll come up w/ something if I have to rob a bank to do it though, no way I'm letting this opportunity slip by and wait an entire year to get back in!

Yes, it IS very expensive. I will be coming out of the program w/my BSN which

is a must have to go forward for my master's later down the road. The other

BSN program in my area doesn't have a very good pass rate at the moment and

local hospitals have been complaining about the caliber of the nurses. The local

ADN program are accepting applications now for 2011!!

Peytonsmom....congrats on making it in!!!! Sorry to hear you're scrambling around

like I've been but I completely agree...no way I'm letting this opportunity slip thru

my fingers!

Oh and just an update....I asked my financial aid guy about the books and would I need to cover the amount above the $600. He said absolutely NOT!!!! He explained that it was an estimate spread over the program of $600 per qtr. and that some qtrs. I may only have to buy 1 book, or none, or just 2. The amounts tallied together is more than enough to cover books. He told me not to worry and after our orientation is when we can buy our books and for me to go get all the books I need and all is good to go.

WHEW!!! That's a big weight right there off these shoulders let me tell ya. I am used to getting my books a lot cheaper online. It's part of my loan so guess I'll be getting them there!

Congratulations!!! ... at least you are accepted, what ****** me off is that there is a huge need for nurses and medical staff in general but is so hard to get into the program and do all the requirements schools need!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!!

I agree!! Some of the waiting lists [like the ADN program here] are

INSANELY long!!! Some people are transferring from that program

and from the other BSN program with the state university to come

to our school, despite the difference in tuition. This is exactly why

I chose this school as opposed to the less expensive state schools.

I didn't want to waste my time on a waiting list just for some of my

credits to reach the 5yr mark and have to re-take:banghead:
