I'm done my first semester of nursing school ADN program. I was told by someone that the best chance of getting a job is to start working in a hospital as a CNA or aid right now.
Has anyone else done this? I don't know where to start. I was thinking about contacting the nursing recruiters during the break but I wonder if they're going to be too busy to call me back?
Any tips?
Thanks
I'd say do it, I learned so much as a PCA, everything from putting physician orders in, to assessing patients, I worked in an E.D. and the experience was invaluable. It was a little scary changing roles, but the fact that I had a pretty sound knowledge of the basics of some things made it easier. Not to mention, I already had a solid, working relationship with many of the nurses there, it made my transition smoother.

Definitely, do it! Go on your local hospitals' websites and apply, but also call their HR departments and inquire about positions for nursing students. Some have special "extern" positions that they set aside for students who have completed their first semester (you).
I held two such positions when I was in school, and was offered RN positions at both.
