So is counseling worth the price?

How did it help you? Is it worth it? My problem is anxiety. Cannot decompress to sleep or relax.

I've been to therapy a few times over the years...unlike some people, I did not find it helpful - it was good to be able to vent to someone that was neutral. I have insurance an co-pay is only $20 for me so cost wasn't a factor. If you have EAP where you work try that first since it's free for a few sessions...if you have never been to therapy it's worth a try - for you it may just do the trick. Good luck ~

It depends on your counselor. Some seem to just let you wander and vent which, of course, is very therapeutic and helpful for some. Others are more results-oriented and give you concrete advice such as those who are more into cognitive behavioral therapy. This is what has worked for me in the past. The therapists did not care so much about the origins of my negative patterns, if my childhood contributed to it or not but rather what I can do in the moment an undesirable thought or action is in progress. I was given worksheets to help deconstruct my mindset and refocus it into a more calm and rational state. If you are having difficulty finding a therapist with such an approach, I have seen many workbooks with the same school of thought at major bookstores. I hope this helps, and I sincerely hope you find happiness and peace. :)
