So so so Confused!

Ok, so I have just joined this site because I have found so many helpful Q & A's from all you wonderful people!!! SO "Hi!!!" I live in Vancouver, WA and am about to go to Clark College...this is what I THINK I need to do...any correction is sooo appreciated! So, go to school for 2yrs...get my Associate in applied Science degree (i think they call it "track 1" there are 2 "tracks") THEN, after that I need to apply to do the Nursing program (which takes a long time to get into???) and do that for 2 years (am I correct???) so 4 years all together, right??? However, it gets more complicated..I plan on starting now and getting my AAS here and then (God willing) transfering to a school near knoxville, TN, to go do the nursing "part"...is this even possible?? Im totally freaking and the school is not being very helpful! Thank you!!!

Hi, Oregon resident here, I have looked at Clark's application process. To get into a nursing program you have to complete the nursing pre-reqs and some of those pre-reqs have thier own pre-reqs like usually your A&P classes have a pre-req of biology and chemistry.

You do not HAVE to have an associates to apply to a nursing program you DO have to have the pre-reqs done to apply. However you most likely will earn some form of an associates degree while completing your pre-reqs ( I earned 2). It took me 3 years of pre-reqs and now 2 years of the nursing program so I will have spent 5 years going to school for my Assoicates of applied Science in nursing which technically is a 2 year degree,

I have taken enough pre-reqs to have gotten into a university program, but I got accepted into my program and I am happy, I will have to take a bridge for my BSN.

You stated that you wanted to do your pre-reqs here and the transfer, you should be able to do that depending on what the nursing school you are applying for requires.

You said you want to go to a school in TN. You need to see what they require to be accepted into their nursing program. Plus make sure the classes you take will transfer to them. Find out what their requirements are to apply to their nursing school. It will probably be similar but not necessarily the same. Hate for you to do a lot of classes and then have to repeat them!

every college has a college catalog that lists out the requirements to earn a degree from their school. within the catalog are the specific requirements as well for a major in a specific department of study, such as nursing. you need to go to clark college's website (http://www.clark.edu/) where they have an online catalog that you can download and read. there is a link to it from the college's home page. the information about the aa nursing program is here: http://www.clark.edu/academics/programs/heoc/nursing/aa.php and information is at the right side of the page which you must click on to get to. it seems they have a bsn program as well as an aa program. sometimes the best thing to do is make an appointment with a counselor and talk with them. i would call and ask to make an appointment with a counselor in the nursing program. a counselor will usually give you a piece a paper with a list of all the courses you will need to take in order to get the degree from the college that you are wanting. if transfer to a university is also something you are considering, it would be a good idea to have whatever information you know at the time you see a counselor so they can help you plan some things out.

if you are moving to tennessee, then you need to look at the colleges in the knoxville area (http://health.state.tn.us/boards/nursing/education.htm - click on the tabs at the top to find the rn schools). it is the same procedure. almost all colleges have websites. pull up the college catalogs and see what they require for admission to the nursing program. be prepared by having already taken the necessary pre-requisites.

having gone to a western school for my adn and then an eastern university for my bsn i can tell you that it was a harrowing experience. the eastern university had a lot of requirements for its bachelor's degree that i had to fulfill. i transferred in a lot of undergraduate credit hours, but the university had a lot of upper degree credits that were required to earn the bsn that could only be taken at their school. also, they were very funny about accepting lower division nursing class credit hours--they wouldn't accept any of mine. i had to take and pass a written and practical test of nursing skills for which they granted a certain amount of lower division nursing credit hours. it was like taking a state board exam all over again! plus, i had to hold a valid rn license in their state (this was a bsn completion program).

you need to understand that each school is allowed to make their own rules about what they can require you to complete in order to grant you a degree. this is all spelled out in the college catalog. these college catalogs are like bibles and should be the first place you look for directions and information. they are official documents of these colleges.

Oh wow! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! This is such an awesome site! I am not planning on going for my BSN now, I plan on going for that later to continue my education, but for now I just REALLY need some $$$ =) My husband lost his job due to becoming epileptic (he worked in security and dropped and had 2 grand mals...not exactly good when you are supposed to be protecting something or someone!!!) and so we are both going back to school! I was really interested that you dont need an AAS to get into the Clark nursing program! That would totally explain why the different forms I have from them have different classes!:bugeyes: I am going to check with E. TN schools and make an appointment w/ an advisor at Clark to see what transfers, ect...Thanks again so much for all your time!!!:heartbeat

Well, I plan on getting that later on, but for now I think I am going for whatever pre-reqs I need to get into a 2 yr. nursing program in Knox. TN...My goal is to get done w/ school as quickly as possible so I can help support my family which is surviving on $183 a week of unemployment right now!!! Thank-You!!!

I wish I could just do the AA degree because (this is funny) I much prefer english to math and science ;) haha....but I guess you can only do that if you are going for your BSN right away??

If your husband is unable to work because of epilepsy he should be looking into filing for federal disability. If approved, there is a monthly check from social security and additional SSI payments if necessary and he qualifies.

Oh my gosh...we did...and did, and did...crazy this system is!!!! Yup, no such luck, we dont have children yet and he is only 28 so we were denied twice and appealed and now are waiting for over 2 years for that to be reviewed, its sooo ridiculous!! ugh (lol) dont get me started! haha
