Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I would love more then anything in the world to become an RN. I feel like i am hitting wall after wall in my search of the right school to go to, for example I have an associates degree and I have taken the prerequsites needed to get into a RN program but because i have taken AP twice and got a "D" I cant not be considered for the RN programs in my area. with that being said I have been trying to look for an accredited LPN program so that I can later on enter an LPN to RN bridge program. i am having such a difficult time trying to find an LPN program in my area. I live in New York to be more specific I live on long island and i am looking for a lpn program that is not online. I am not even sure if this is the right move to make someone please help!!!!

Good day, wantstobeRN:

Are you aware that LPN students need to take and pass anatomy and physiology where passing is usually a C or higher? Have you looked into why you got a "D" twice? Check with local community colleges if they have a LPN program; also check with technical institutes (aka vocational schools).

Thank you.

I would see if you can take it a 3rd time....but look into why you are getting a D! Don't give up. Talk with an advisor about associate degree nursing programs (ADN) in your area. Those programs are usually at community colleges. It is still necessary to get good grades in order to get accepted to an ADN program. This will give you your RN at the end of graduation, then you can do the bridge RN-BSN at a university.

Yes I am well aware that I need to pass A&P the first time I took ap I was a young college student that really didn't care much about school the second time I went back to school as an adult and manged "A" in all of my classes but A&P the professor that we had was teaching more then one class in different schools and would often go off of the topic we originally studied the class complained to the dean but nothing was done until the following semester by the acting dean and he no longer teaches at that school but I still have that grade

Thank you for the encouragement I will see if I can take it a 3rd time since the first time I was a dumb young college student that didn't care about school. And the second time our whole class had to complain to the dean about the professor of A&P since he was not following the roster and would often confuse us for another class he was teaching in another school nothing was done until the following semester but I still remained with the "D". Thanks again for responding and offering that option of ADN program

You will definitely need to bring up that grade, and it seems you are aware of that too! A strong foundation in A&P is crucial when you have to learn how all the body systems interact and affect each other. Speak with some of the schools that you were looking into and ask about what you can do currently. They may have a limit on how many times you can retake a course, so you'll definitely want to know about that.
