is this a smart idea?

I am taking nursing prereq's starting in March (I need the A&P's, microbiology, chemistry and psychology), but don't really have a lot going on schedule-wise until then. Would it be a smart move to learn (as much as possible, at least) the A&P coloring book, etc to try and get an edge? Any other ideas?

Maybe glance over a few things, but honestly, I would enjoy your free time while you have it. Very soon it will be a hot commodity. You won't have much of it at all for the next few years. Your kids will need some Mommy TLC. Just my .02.

I would suggest enjoying your time also. If you are concerned, you could contact the professors and tell them you would like to prepare and ask what they suggest. Otherwise, enjoy the next few months. ;)

Good luck to you! :D

I have always done this, I have usually tried to either find out what would be coming up first or get a copy of the syllabus. psychologically for me I need to feel prepared. I wouldn't try to "learn" it all but I would get familiar, when I first started AP I bought AP for dummies to read as my leisure reading, I didn't try to study it I just tried to get familiar with it, so everything didn't seem so brand new. For 2nd semester AP I knew the nervous system was first so I did that whole units reading and outlining, doing this I went into lecture knowing a good portion and aced one of the hardest tests we were given the whole semester, it allowed me to keep my head above water and stay on top of all the reading we had, so I could always go into lecture having read the entire chapter. To me that is the key! it's terrible listening to lecture and feeling lost then you can't ask questions once you read it and it all comes together.

The other thing you could do to help you is practice your math skills basic algebra is used a lot in Chemistry and I know that was an area I was lacking in so I worked on that too, and lucky me our teacher gave us a math quiz the first day to see where we were all at.

good luck.

Thanks for your replies, everyone!

I guess I also feel like I need to be prepared (for everything class-wise, at least). I think I'll also browse the book just to familiarize myself with the material!

I think most of us on here feel that way, that's why we read this board, to familiarize our selves with whats to be expected, what others are going through etc. Good luck to you, you will do great because I can see you are one of the hard workers ensuring your future success.

If I were you I would wait for the class. You will get the material presented in an orderly fashion and I'm sure you'll do well! Enjoy your time with your family now before you begin the grind!
