Slight ANCC test anxiety...

Hello all. I usually don't suffer from too much test anxiety since I generally do well...that is, I manage to keep cool, answer questions as calmly and rationally as I can, remain comfortable, and pass. (I strongly believe that anyone who can succeed in nursing or NP school is absolutely CAPABLE of passing, though I know it's hard to keep it together at the test center.)

I'm taking my ANP test in about a week. At this point, I usually allow in a few wimpish doubts...really, it's all part of the process. One way I am able to stave off any doubts is to take practice tests and see that I am probably going to be fine. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what "fine" is on the ANCC test since I have heard the scoring is sort of vague and percentages aren't given.

I have been using the Hollier book for practice questions. In the subject sections I did rather poorly, which was discouraging, but I think the questions were meant to be hard--like things people get wrong a lot. I completed the first of 3 practice tests in the back, and scored 78%. I know it's not like "school grades" or anything, so 78% isn't necessarily bad, but I honestly don't know--does the ANCC expect better than this?

Just so you know what else I have studied (besides all my school notes), I have listened to M.F. CD's, have her book, and borrowed a copy of her excellent syllabus, and I feel pretty comfortable with the material she provides.

I'm going to go sit in the park with my dog and take test 2. Maybe find some gazpacho and chill.

If anyone knows anything about how ANCC scores, I'd love to hear about it. For everyone who's been passing this summer--you're fabulous!

Hey Kan- since we are in the same boat here, I wanted to tell you about a couple of things I found out.

Passing for ANCC is about 70%, so if you are getting 78% on your practice exams then you are doing fine. One of my preceptors whom I keep in touch with said the ANCC is almost identical to Hollier questions.

I know you said that the Hollier book was frustrating you too. I got desperate and purchased Leik's FNP Intensive review. They had recommended it in Margaret Fitzgerald's class. It is really helpful, and the Hollier questions make alot more sense.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your studying. I'm still trying to decide if I'm changing my test date from next week to a couple of weeks later!
