Is there anyone here that is applying to the San Jose State University nursing program for Fall 2013?!

If you guys were to start studying, how would you guys approach the books =[. Do you guys thinks its better to focus on one main subject (which ever one is the hardest O_O) or would guys read a little from each.

btw which class have you heard is theee hardest

I think I would approach either Pathophysio or Pharmacology first. I heard the professor for Pharm is tough on knowing all of the drugs and stuff.

Hey guys. I just my acceptance letter to the nursing program :) Does anyone know how the background check works and other stuff I have to get done like physicals and stuff. Btw I don't have any insurance so if anyone knows I cheaper alternative that'd be great.

Congrats! I'm so happy to hear that.

Just follow these instructions for the background check: http://www.sjsu.edu/nursing/docs/Background%20Check%20Instructions.pdf

And for the physical and stuff, the student health center should be your best bet.

Thanks :) I'm so excited!! Can't wait to meet everyone. But how do you know what classes to take though?

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you, too.

Is your acceptance packet still in the mail? In that case, you can check the course of study on the nursing website for an idea of what classes you have to take. The acceptance packet will give you a calendar grid with the possible classes you can mix and match (for the courses that have more than one section).

Adding onto the student health center, be sure to have your forms filled out on the online services page first (this is what it means to "register as a student" as written on the letter) if you intend to do your checkups there. Some services are denied to you until you get these forms done!

You will want to print this before your physical exam and bring it with you, though the nurse will do it for you after the examination if you don't have a copy.

Thanks so much for your help :) So I figured out the classes and I want to get the books sometime this month... I went to the sjsu bookstore website and all they have listed is a bundle. I'm so not gonna do that, so would you happen to know what books we need individually so I can get them off of Amazon??

Just got the email about the schedule for the August 16th Workshop.

will anyone be working while going to nursing school?

Hi kittycat123,

So sorry for the late reply, this site never notified me of your response. I'll do my best to answer your questions.

1. To be honest this semester was probably the hardest I have had, only because the material being learned is much different than before. In anatomy and micro i felt like it was mostly just memorization but with nursing knowledge it is so much more than memorizing, and cramming is impossible. It took some getting use to but once you get in the groove and find a good study habit (I had to do some tweaking to my studying habits) you will get the hang of it and come to enjoy it.

2.MOst definitely critical thinking and thats the part that a lot of people have some issues getting use to.... It's all about "thinking like a nurse" and it is that type of thinking that takes time. A lot of older semesters have said that the really feeling like a nurse part doesn't come until like semester 4 or 5. So don't beat yourself up if it doesn't come easy, you will get there.

3. This is a difficult question to answer because every subject and exam were different. Physio and pharm are the ones that you need to keep up with the studying almost everyday. It is impossible to cram for these classes. Pharm is still a lot of memorization because you have to know so many drugs.

4.My advice would be to get involved with your class. My class definitely became a family and we all supported each other. I is also important to have a small study group or at least a group of people you can rely on. It is impossible to be an island and succeed in this program or as a nurse. If you need help ask for it!!! The teachers have office hours, use them if you need them they are there to help you, they are much more inclined to help in office hours then if you come up to them before or after class.... that usually stresses them out. And my last piece of advice is.... Don't point squabble with instructors especially not during class. If there is a specific question you have regarding an exam or assignment go to them at office hours! most importantly have fun and enjoy it!

5. Skills lab is awesome. Yes we spent a lot of time in there. it is 2 days a week 3 hour class, plan to spend the whole class time, we rarely got out early. My biggest piece of advice for skills is to do as much as possible, we are usually just free practicing things so you will only get as much practice done as you want. There were times when i kinda just hung back and didn't practice and i now wish I had just jumped in there and done it. It is also really helpful to use open lab to practice certain skills (like your physical assessment and other check offs) because time given in class is usually not enough time to get the skills down.

I hope this helped and let me know if you have any other questions!

Does anyone know if the pharmacology book is supposed to come with the semester one bundle? I just bought the semester 1 bundle and there is no pharmacology book!
