What states allow RN (ADN) students to sit for LPN exam after the first year? Does the school have to offer an LPN program as well as ADN? I couldn't find any information about this in my state (Kansas), but noticed a BCCC student said this was allowed in El Dorado.

It's allowed in Iowa. Yes, My school offers an LPN as well as ADN. In fact the first year of the ADN program is the PN program.

In my school in Washington State you can take the PN exam after your first year but they require you to take some extra classes that teach the PN component (roles) of the job of the LPN. I would highly recommend going the route of getting your LPN license as I found it made me really a lot less anxious when taking the NCLEX-RN. It is the same format and by the time you get through the rigorous 2nd year you are ready. The school I went to has a PN program at one of their other campuses and an RN program at the campus I attended.
Thanks. That's good information about testing as LPN first. Anything to make the NCLEX-RN more friendly is good... In my area, I've found only one school that offers LPN testing after the first year.

As a Butler County (Eldorado) grad I took the NCLEX-PN after my 3rd semester of ADN (eligible after 2nd semester). I thought it made NCLEX-RN easier.... I'd had exposure to an NCLEX and knew what to expect.
