Simmons Direct Entry: Student Profile

Published

Do current students find this student profile accurate?

Most of the accelerated bachelor and direct entry masters programs seem to appeal to career changers, and an older demographic. I was surprised by the average age. My take on these stats is that if you are going to balance out the handful of 40+somethings and still arrive at an average age of 25, then fully half or more of the students must be enrolling immediately after completing their undergraduate degree.

Can current students confirm this? Also, is Simmons' status as a single-sex undergraduate institution reflected, to some degree, in the graduate school? That is, is the female/male ratio any different in the Simmons Direct Entry program than, say, MGH, Northeastern, or BC?

Thanks in advance.

Just a quick response.... at the MGH open house for the DE program, there were probably 8-10 guys there. I'm not sure how many Simmons accepts, but I'm sure its right around the same number. I have a male friend going to Simmons for a masters in something totally unrelated to health care, and I know he has said there are other guys there.

Also, for the age question... I'm 25, so right there at the average. But again at the MGH open house, there were TONS of adults there, but still many college students. A few years ago when I first looked into Simmons, the average age was 27, but it has dropped since then. I think more college age students are deciding to go to school immediately because its getting harder to find entry level positions coming out of school. Simmons has yet to have an accepted students function, but I think their profile is very similar to MGH.

I'm trying to decide between the two programs... there are so many similarites that it is making it quite difficult.

I too am having a hard time choosing. If anyone wants to PM me and talk about it, please do.

There was one male in our DE cohort...I think the class behind us has more (maybe 3-5). Simmons does an open house in the summer for those of you who plan to attend...there is a question and answer session with students that have been in the program for a year.
