  1. Yes, biochem is offered in May and that is what I took to cover my orgo prereq.
  2. The first fall semester is class all day 2x a week. It is a heavy workload as well as one 8 hr clinical a week. The clinicals associated with the NP portion of the program dont begin until the summer after you pass the NCLEX and that is if you are going full time for that portion of the program. The only thing you get paid for is the RN job you get after you pass the boards. Hope this helps!
  3. I have friends that have been hired into Boston hospitals as new grads - either they got lucky or they precepted on the floor that they were hired onto. It isnt impossible, but it is close.
  4. There was one male in our DE cohort...I think the class behind us has more (maybe 3-5). Simmons does an open house in the summer for those of you who plan to attend...there is a question and answer session with students that have been in the program for a year.
  5. Since it is accelerated, there is a lot of work in a short amount of time- reading/exams/papers as well as clinicals and class that are time consuming. The classes are very challenging, but that can vary from class to class and also it depends on what kind of student you are.
  6. The clinicals are challenging and rewarding...they are all over the city for the most part, depending on the clinical. I took biochem the summer before the program started at Simmons. It was really helpful and taught by a professor that teaches in the 1st fall semester. I heard back around Christmas when I applied, but that may have changed in the past couple years. I would call them.
  7. Hi there, I am in the program now...let me know if you have any specific questions!
  8. I second that....it is A LOT of work, but pays off in the end!! Enjoy the summer and winter breaks.
  9. I think once you are done with these programs, the hospitals look at the total package...experience etc. However, going to the MGH program, one would assume that MGH would most likely want to hire you. I could be wrong though. I am in the Simmons DE program and the summer pre-reqs were really helpful. I only took two, but lots of my classmates took all of them. It was stressful at times, but helpful to have the info fresh in your head for Fall semester. I think the only class SImmons does not offer is Statistics. I had no hands on patient experience AT ALL. Thats ok! The field evens out after a while. You have life experience and that is just as important. I dont think that Simmons would not accept you for that reason.
  10. Roxbury CC is super affordable for pre reqs and Simmons accepts a bunch of them including Stats.
  11. Hi! I am going the Simmons direct entry program starting in May. I think they really look closely at the whole application and not just the GPA. They have a guide to typical student grades/scores etc.
