Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, worth it to join?

Published

well guys/gals, just finally passed my boards and i'm working. get a call from a teacher from my program saying, "oh, become a member of epsilon kappa chapter # ***of stti," , "you need it for graduate school!"

is it worth the hype?

alright is this true, it's like 100 bucks every year i mean i won't be going to graduate school for at least 4 years so why join now?; can't i just join like 1 year before graduate school? or is this not possible?

thanks for your time in advance,

joe

We need to do all we can to increase respect for our profession. I'm married to a family physician. After observing physicians working together for over 30, I can tell you that if nurses would support one another while protecting & promoting the art of nursing as a profession in the same manner physicians have, we'd be paid much better and gain more respect from the world of healthcare professionals.

Joining professional organizations is a key way to promote and protect our profession.

I agree with you there! I was a member of AACN before going back to school and now I am member of the AANA. AANA is great it has to be the strongest speciality nursing organization there is, with around 95%+ of CRNAs belonging to it.

We have a long way to go before we ever have the solidatiry that physicians have among their profession.

Exactly. This is about all that the Chapter that inducted me had to offer!

That's unfortunate. The chapter here is quite active. I'm looking forward to it :)

Agree with the above post. I have been a member for several years but never found the membership to benefit me financially. However, I use the website once in a while for gathering info on various topics.

Hi! I just got asked to join STTI at my university. I am pretty happy about that and do see it as an honor. My grades are good (around 3.6). Once you get in, do you have to maintain top grades?? Like what if I fall to a 3.0 or something? Do they throw you out??? Or once you are in, as long as you pay dues, are you in? Curious on this. Thanks!

I'm not sure about getting kicked out...but I know I just payed my first yearly dues and I will probably not pay next year because once you pay, so I've heard, you are always a member, but just not an active member/current member if you don't pay your yearly dues...to me it's definitely a resume builder...
