Sierra College (Rocklin, CA) - Pre-reqs

Published

So I am still plowing on towards finishing my pre-reqs. I just finished my EMT certification on the side... and my human development class.

I am taking the summer off, but I am already registered for class for the fall... Chem A and Nutrition.

Anyone else taking similiar classes?

Also, I am having a slow day at work - if you want a chat buddy, let me know. (I am the assistant to the director of nursing where I work) She's not here today, so it's going to be kinda boring.

Hi Tami! I;m supposed to be finishing up the work for my last week of classes at American River College -English and Gen Chem, but wanted to say Hi! Since you're in a college close to mine.

You said you're working in a health care related postion while you're in school? What are you in school for and what are you working toward?

I'm curious because I plan to get a job in health care within the nest 6 months to a year and want to know which types of positions work best with working while completing prereqs.

I'm taking A&P 1 this summer at the Sutter Extension in Sac and taking A&P 2 and Psych in the Fall at American River and Sac City College.

Specializes in being a Credible Source.

Really, you can't find anything productive to do while you're being paid unless somebody directs you?

Surfin' the web on the company dime :uhoh3:

:twocents: Oh, she's no different than a lot of people. :) I'm an employer and I understand that perspective completely.

HOWEVER: consider this: In my area, the community college chancellor sent a letter to the professors telling them they cannot overload clases because the conselors and janitiors complained. The support staff complained that they have to do MORE WORK if the teachers over-enroll.

That makes no sense to me, since they work an 8 hour shift regardless of the # enrolled and if they have less down time because more students are being served, why should they complain? That's their job.

Plus, I'm sure during some periods of time they have down time and not as much work.

I don't know what kind of work the OP actually does, but if she's doing direct pt care, I would think a break when circumstances allow would be very reasonable. I expect the people who work for me to get their work done and take breaks - ie be more efficent - when they can.

No hard feelings anyone, just my 2 cents!!

Before you judge... know that I was on my UNPAID BREAK while posting this... and NO, I don't need direction. I am actually sort-of in charge while she is gone. The reason why I have nothing to do, is because I am efficient at my job, and I have already completed what I needed to do today, including facilitating a meeting on her behalf.

Right now, I am on my UNPAID LUNCH... so I have free time to explore. I am allowed occasional emails throughout the day.

But then again, why should I explain to you what I do for a living. You jump right to conclusions that I am lazy and unproductive. Shame on you for your predjuice. No wonder some people leave this board.... they are attacked un-necessarily.

Thank you for your input. I work at a surgery center. I am not involved in patient care. I am an administrative assistant to the DON and facility Administrator. My job is to keep her organized and take care of small daily tasks, in which I usually finish in the first hour or two. My job is the first in our entire company, because there is no Admin at any other of our ASC's across the country. Mine was just created last year, so they are still trying to streamline my job description... they are making it up as they go.

On days like today... we have a small patient load, therefore there is less paperwork. And when she's away and happy, my job requirements are small. I usually spend the time studying or speaking to other nurses for feedback on specific jobs or situations... (which is why I am here on this board, obviously). I am quite a lucky person actually to work here. And yes, they do not mind my "web surfing" while on my own time. I don't really consider this "web surfing" as I am trying to connect with others for education reasons that are job related...

Anyhow, I appreciate the comments and I hope in the future, people are less quick to judge others and would ask questions first to gain an understanding of the other persons motivations. At least, IMO, that would be the most respectable thing to do.

Have a good day.

Hi, let me know if you ever want to talk about nursing :D I'm in Sacramento too. I wasn't able to get into A&P at ARC, do you have any more information on how you signed up with Sutter Extension? I think this is a great idea!

I haven't tried with ARC yet, but I was surprised I got into the chem class... there were only 24 seats!

You can go to the Sutter website... it's
