When I first got my driver's license, the law was, you had to be 18 to drive in NYC. So shortly after my 18th birthday, I drove down to Manhattan on 5th Avenue in my '63 Plymouth. I could not believe how tall the buildings were!
This was before the towers were built!
When the towers fell, I couldn't imagine the magnitude of the catastrophe. I still can't.
At first, I thought, no way should we build buildings that big ever again.
But lately, I've been thinking--a building in the shape of a cross, that goes to 103 floors. On the roof of the 102nd floor, there is a circular memorial to the victims in a central "courtyard park" that can be viewed from the topmost floors inside the building, or can be accessed by visitors. The walls surrounding the memorial have the names and stories of each of the victims, as told by their families.
So what do you think? Rebuild or no?
