Should you put RN or BSN after name on resume?

Nurses Job Hunt

Hi, I am new to allnurses and have a question about resumes. I am trying to apply to a graduate nurse residency program and one of their requirements is that you get your RN by the time you start their program. I have graduated with a BSN and have passed boards making me an RN. (SO relieved!:)) I am wondering which title is the most important to list after my name on my resume? I want them to know that I have my license (hoping this will make me a attractive candidate for the program) but that I am also a BSN as they prefer that degree. I was thinking that I would put RN and then assume they will get the BSN info from my education section.....but wasn't sure! Any ideas? I would appreciate your thoughts!

If your other majors are in something other than nursing you can put them but if it is a continuation of nursing education you don't. For example, if you get a BSN then become an NP with an MSN you would put: "Jane Doe MSN, FNP" you would not put "Jane Doe BSN, MSN, RN, NP. MSN cancels out BSN and NP cancels out RN (because as an NP you are statin you're an advanced practice registered nurse). Also, the girl I was talking a out who couldn't write her own name had a MHI(masters of health innovation) since this is not nursing, it would be appropriate to include it: Jane Doe BSN, MHI, RN, CCRN. Not sure if MHI or BSN goes first or if it matters but... Ya.

I am so grateful for this conversation and all the great advise. I am also a new grad with BSN, RN, and I had to same question regarding putting my credentials behind my name on my resume. My fellow nurses are so helpful on this site; it's amazing...Proud to be a nurse!!!:)
