Should I worry about drug use as a teenager/early 20s with no conviction?

Hi all, and thanks for reading my post. I'm new to this site, and I'm happy to have found it. I have a question that I hope some of you can answer. I'm looking into applying to nursing schools soon. I understand that some time down the road, there will be a criminal background check. Now, I do not have a criminal record (meaning any convictions), but I do have a concern: A while back, I applied for a California Department of Corrections Peace Officer position. For the application, I had to fill out a detailed, pages and pages long Background Check. On this detailed Background Check, I was perfectly honest (probably should't have been, but that's beside the point), revealing that I have a light to moderate drug use history from the ages of 16 to 21. Now, I have never been convicted of any crime (except speeding tickets), and have always been a good student and worker, and I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of California. However, I am concerned that during the Criminal Background Check that needs to be done to be eligible for registered nursing, this information about prior drug use that I provided to the California Department of Corrections might come up. What do you all think? Should I be worried?

Thanks in advance.

We can not give you any info here, construed as legal advice, against TOS. You need to pose your question directly to the BRN. They handle all cases on a case by case basis and since they will be making any decisions, you should ask them. There is a sticky on this subject at the top of the Introductions and Greetings forum which you can read.

Well, I guess I can't give you legal advice, but I don't think this counts as advice:

AFAIK, the only things that are listed on background checks are things that are on the public record. If your application for the CA peace officer thing wasn't made public in any way, I wouldn't expect it to come up on a background check.

Also, how old are you now? Did you get professional treatment for your problem? If it was a long time ago, maybe they won't care as much. If you got treatment, and someone brings up your drug use history, I'd point that out.
