Yeah, graduation is done and I have an NP job waiting that would like me to start ASAP. During my boards review I have read that I should sit for both exams as a back-up in case I fail one of them as I have a job on hold. Of course reading that has greatly increased my anxiety level!! I did well in school and plan to do quality review over the next 5-6 weeks before I test. I have applied to ANCC and am waiting for the paperwork to process - should I apply to AANP too?

I too had a job waiting for me so I went ahead and signed up for both. I took ancc first as that is the one I truly desired. I passed it the first time- not bad at all. Ended up canceling aanp and of course was out the fee but reimbursed the rest.
So for more peace of mind and if you don't mind being out the cancellation fee- schedule both.
Otherwise go with the one you really want and study hard. Good luck!

First of all, i want to congratulate you on your graduation! You have made it through school….:)
Well, if i were in your shoes, (job lined up and waiting for me, ..:) i would apply for both, register for the test that i feel more comfortable with. Really? Are you sure you are comfortable with any of these tests? …:) Not really, but you know how some people want to take AANP simply because it's purely clinical. That's what i mean. Sooo, i would do AANP first ( only clinical stuff) and then do the ANCC later. For you, it seems you want to do ANCC first, but regardless of how confident i am on passing, i would also apply for the other one as well.(AANP). And if i pass my first choice, i can take the other one just to see how it is. (Since you paid for it anyway). But no intention of keeping both of them afterwards.I have to let one of them lapse after the 5yrs. The Point i am trying to make is that , i would not take any chances at all, not when i have a job waiting ..lol..it's only a couple $100s. I'll rather lose the bucks than lose the job! Hope this helps! Goodluck and pls let us know how you do!

Safest way to do it is to schedule them both, you can always cancel, but it sets you up in case something unexpected happens.
Remember that 80-87% percent of exam takers will pass!
