Should I Switch Nursing Programs?

Published

Hello,

I'd like some objective advice from whoever would be so kind so as to provide it. I am currently in the 3rd semester of a 4 semester ADN program that is only accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing and which is currently on probation for poor NCLEX performance of prior cohorts. Also, this particular program is very unorganized, borderline unprofessional, and there is not much clinical time given. The lack of organization has resulted in several smart being delayed by upto a year in attempting to get their ADNs. That hasn't happened to me yet, but there isn't any reason it couldn't.

Recently, I got into an accelerated BSN program that finishes 8 months after my ADN cohort will graduate.  The BSN program costs roughly double what my current program costs, but it is known to produce quality nursing graduates. Also, I'd: get a LOT more clinical time at quality hospitals, be connected to the BSN program's larger university network should I wish to consider graduate school down the road, and be a lot closer to where I live. Also, I would finish roughly when my cohort will get their BSN's should they go to school full time after they finish their ADNs, or if they go part-time, I will finish with my BSN long before they will. One more thing. The program I am in now has a just barely acceptable NCLEX pass rate. The program to which I would switch has a near 100% NCLEX pass rate. It is also accredited nationally and not just by the Texas Board of Nursing.

The reason I am asking this question here, even though it seems like switching should be the obvious choice, is because I will be starting my 4th and final semester in the ADN program when the accelerated BSN program starts.

What would you do? Switch? or stay?

     Your help is appreciated.
