Should I move to Atlanta?!

Published

Hello i just passed my nclex pn and i want to move away from Ny for a change of scenery. I love atlanta but a big factor is pay. Online it says the average salary is $49,000. I wanted to know what LPNs start off at with no experience. Where I live they start around 16-20 an hour. Plus... does GA accept NY license transfer.

Thanks for your time

You need to contact the Board of Nursing re: LPN requirements however, reciprocity is usually offered.

As far as LPN pay, like RN pay, it varies depending on where you live, work and experience..

Like most every other state, the job market is tight in Ga. My advice would be to obtain for or at least have proof you have applied for your Ga. license, otherwise, I honestly don't think you will get any responses. It takes months to get a license here.

Also, the closer you are to the bigger cities (like ATL) the greater your chances are in landing a job. Some hospitals in this state do no hire LPN's. If there are any working it's usually because they were grandfathered in so that is something to check on as well.

It would also be easier if you already lived in Ga. as a lot of times the interviews come up quick and there are soooo many applicants for jobs that putting a potential employer off while you make travel arrangements will lessen your chances further.

Am not trying to dissuade you from moving here, just giving you the facts as I see them in healthcare here - and w/LPN. Now, a LOT of LTC facilities still hire LPN's. I don't think the $16-20 is unreasonable - just depends on where.
