Should I leave nursing?

Nurses New Nurse

Since nursing school my experience with this whole profession has been negative. I stuck it out and long story short I'm on my third nursing job in less than a year. The first job was a Nursing home and I left for a medsurg floor which was insanity and terrible training. I Moved to another state to get into a dialysis clinic. I'm in my early 20s and feel like I made a major career mistake going into nursing. For some reason I'm thinking about medical school because I love learning and if I go to medical school I'd choose a specialized field like radiology or anesthesia with less direct patient care.

I don't know if you should leave nursing, but medical school may not be realistic for you either. It would require a huge amount of commitment, which you seem iffy on. You'd also need to be able to make decisions independently ...not a strong point.

I'm under the impression that you'd have to compete for a specialty- not just pick the one you like. And your reasons for even considering medical school are ...strange.

Maybe you should stop by student doctor network and look around? They have a "what are my chances" forum that might be of interest.

Your age is a big positive. You've got time to sort it all out.

As best I can feel, most Nursing Jobs suck for the first year or two. If you keep switching, you'll never get comfortable. I agree with the previous poster, going to medical school because you hate being a nurse doesn't seem wise or well thought out.
