Should I go back to school

Published

Hi everyone,

I had posted a thread last month or three weeks ago about my job hunting experience right now. I lost my job like almost 1 and half now and still not hired in this minute. I had interviews and still have not have any hire. I am worry right now because I am not sure my previous job is hurting me or something went wrong with my interview. I am worry. I read many posts over there about people been terminated or resigned and can not find a job or having a hard time finding a job.

I resigned because my manager said I was not experienced enough for the floor. I explain to people in the interview why I resigned, but they all said they need to call my previous manager before they made a decision.

I am worry because he told me that he will place a hold or something that I might unable to hire back to the same hospital. He also told me that he hold on the materials that my preceptor had write me up all the mistake that I made. (Those mistake that I made, I was so anxiety during the time and I made mistakes or said the wrong things to doctors or ask doctors to spell medication for me due to many of the doctors are international. It is hard for me to understand them sometimes. My preceptor told me that she will write me up, therefore, she had evidence to give to the manager that I am not qualify for the unit. That was my first month in that floor. It cause me a lot of anxiety because my preceptor and said sorry that she had no time to teach me due to the floor is really busy, but in the second day of work she will become someone who is crazy. She will said all these emotional attacking sentence to me as well as she will find little things to attack me instead teaching me. Maybe, that how she teach..

I am really hurt by it already due this is my first nursing job after I graduated. I really didn't mine to resigned because the floor is for someone who suppose to have at least 2 years experience before able to be hired. I was lack of the critical thinking that they want me to have at the time.

I wonder what is the best way to talk to people in my interview when they ask you why you leave the floor and then if we call your previous manager what you think he or she will said about you? How I respond to these questions?

I also want to ask people about your opinion that should I be a nurse or should I go back to school for another degree. Is this normal for some place who is unlucky as me? Is that how manager treat nurses all over the place?

Thanks in advance for your input...

Happy!

Well first of all, don't let this one incident discourage you. We all make mistakes but the most important thing is that we learn from them. Do I need to make a list of mistakes that I made for you before I became a good nurse!!! I suggest that you get some experience before going back to school depending on what you are going to school for. And when you are being interviewed and they ask you why you resigned you shouldn't have to go into great details. You can say" I resigned because this particular unit requires you to have at least 2 years of experience under you belt and I didn't have that at the time". And I wanted to be at a place where I can get a good experience. I felt that getting good experience as a nurse would allow me to provide the best care to my patients so I decided to explore my options and apply here! Okay, end of that question next.....You have to be confident in your interviews and know what your talking about. And if you don't know the answer to something make it positive and show them that you are eager to find the answer. And if they call your manager from your previous job so what. You can google good interview techniques and how to answer questions during interviews. It will also give you tips on the type of questions most interviewers ask. I usually do this before every interview. Take care and good luck!!

They shouldn't have hired you if the job was for a 2-year experienced RN in the first place. I think telling prospective employers you resigned from your previous job because you lack experience is a not-so-good selling point after all. You seem to be discrediting yourself even more that way. You may choose to totally omit that experience from your resume to avoid explaining your cause for resignation.

If I omit that experience. Would it be possible when they asked because during my interviews. They all asked about my previous experience and I was honest about it. I never receive a call back at all. I heard someone told me that it is illegal to lie in your resume or when they ask.

I know that probably my previous job is hurting me and I really honest about it when I do my interview, but I know people don't care about your honestly because they are hiring for worker. They are not hiring someone who resigned because experience issue. This make me really disappointed because many people who graduated now can not find a job because many places are not hiring people without the experience. Many jobs I saw it lists online, they required one years of experience even most of them are med-surg floor.
