Should I get Varicella titer, MMR titer, Flu shot, Tdap shot in one day??

Published

Hi everyone, my nursing program requires me to get the Varicella titer, MMR titer, Flu shot, and Tdap shot before the program begins, and I schedule an appointment with a clinic to have all four shots given to me on one day.

Do you think it is wise to have them all given to me in one day?

and again, no...they may scare people with the word required but in reality there are laws to protect those that refuse. :)

state vaccine requirements – national vaccine information center

the laws in my state, according to your link, do not protect all who refuse. it protects only those who have a religious or medical reason for refusal. if i was an anti-vax crusader, i have no medical reason to refuse. i'm also an atheist, so i wouldn't have any religious reason to refuse.

i just briefly looked at the graphic of the states that have laws for refusals on the books. it looks like 18 states protect refusals on solely philosophical grounds.

i know one girl who refused on religious grounds. she talked to a number of priests about her refusal. most declined to give her a letter in support of her refusal. she did eventually find one that provided the letter. it was not based on doctrine, e.g. jw's who refuse blood products on religious grounds. it was based on "examination of conscience." in essence, the priest was supporting her in that he felt she had thought it through, when in reality she was convinced of the evils of vaccinations through the "examination of googling."

Sure, the school can do whatever they want. But since there are laws protecting those who refuse, the student can turn around and sue the school. Same goes for the clinical site. Laws are there for a reason and if these places don't comply, then they can be sued. Just like if my kids were denied entry to school because they don't have certain vaccines, I can sue. I know this kind of thing isn't common knowledge and all I'm trying to do it give the other side.

In my state, the law says that your kids could be kept out of school for noncompliance and you, as the parent, could also be cited, UNLESS you have medical or religious grounds for refusal, which requires documentation from a medical or religious authority.

Your state may indeed allow philosophical refusals, but your interpretation cannot be generalized to 49 add'l states.

I know people have their own reasons for wanting to refuse immunizations, but I personally want the immunizations. I would not want to risk catching any of these viruses. For what it is worth, here is my shot sequence so far:

Day 1 - Titer test (single blood draw) for varicella, mumps, measles, rubella, and hepatitis B. I received two shots - Flu and DTaP. I also did the first of two required TB tests.

Day 3 - read TB test (48-72 hours after given).

Day 5 - titer results are back and I'm too low on everything. I went in for three more shots - MMR, Hepatitis B, and Varicella (this one is hard to find as it apparently can't be stored very long and it is expensive).

The hepatitis series is typically three shots and I just read that the varicella is usually two shots. I also read that we should wait six weeks after immunization for additional titer testing. Getting multiple shots together is fine. You might be a bit sore, but I didn't think it was too bad.
