Should I get my license endorse before/after getting into TX?

Published

I'm currently a certified RN in PA. I'm going to TX in a few week for a job search for approximately 7-8 weeks in Houston. I've heard about job scarce in the city, and wondering if I should my Texas license endorsement at all. I'm afraid I might not be able to find a job and waste my money for the endorsement

Does the employer in Texas give some leeway for out of state nurse without a TX endorsement prior to hiring? Or should I apply for some type of temporary permit, and when I've a job in Houston then apply for an endorsement? Thanks you for your help!

You should really find a job before you move here and before you start the endorsement process.

Thanks for your help! Hopefully I get something and don't have to go back!

I agree with the PP. In this climate, hospitals have plenty of qualified applicants, so they are not usually willing to wait on someone who isn't "good to go". I would advise you to go ahead and get your Tx license. This also strongly conveys your degree of commitment to making the move. Trust me, you will find a job - you won't be wasting your money.

Unless you have an seriously in-demand skill set & experience, please do not limit your job search to The Texas Medical Center. Your chances of getting a job there are slim. We have a ton of top-notch hospitals in all areas of the city & suburbs. I-10 West is a big area of growth, with 2 sytems (Methodist & Texas Children's) ramping up new facilities for inpatient services in a month or so.

You may also want to look around at housing while you're here - but don't settle on anything until you actually have a job. There will be a lot of affordable choices within reasonable commuting time of anywhere you work.

Best of Luck to you!

I'll be living in Jersey Village NW of Houston, I recently send out a couple of application, very lengthy in Texas [it go with the motto: Gotta be big in TX]. Any hospital u recomment

Anyway, some of my friend who travel there said that there are 30 days grace period, so I might wait during these days before I actually get a job. TX endorsement is little expensive, plus my budget is kind of tight. Thanks for your help! All comments are appreciated
