Should I first be a PSW then bridge to RPN?

I contacted my admissions advisor and she said the academic score this year for nursing at Mohawk College was 90%! She said I should consider becoming a PSW first if I happen to score under 80%. I am going to try really hard to get 80% or higher. Would it be worth it to do the PSW course first? Anyone else do that? Does it make it easier to get into practical nursing?

Exactly, if it doesn't matter what route you take and it's just the marks they look at, then I might as well get good marks in the prerequisites. And I can't easily relocate, as I am a wife and mother of 3 kids and we just bought a house last year! lol

Really? I never heard of that…sounds tempting! lol

Yeah, I heard they raised the bar because of the over abundance of applicants so they require you take all these prerequisites with high marks as a way of "weeding out" the applicants! I have a cousin who is an RN (BScN) and said the hardest part for her was doing the prerequisites, not the actual nursing school!

Linz,

Sorry for the situation you are in! Did you take U or C courses? Where are you taking the courses? I heard ILC (Future Students | ILC.org) is a very good place to take courses, it's online and you can go on your own pace as there's no deadline, just gotta finish the course within certain months (within 6 months i think). Many people take it, including my friend. Read it up and if you willing to retake courses you can try that! :D

Did you check Humber college? It's probably the closest after mohawk college. I think it's 1.2hr drive from Simcoe to Humber college

Also, I believe it's easier to get in Winter intake as it's mostly non-high school students applying. The average will probably be a bit lower.

I am taking College courses at Fanshawe in Simcoe. Yeah, I heard of ILC, I plan to do some online non nursing courses once I finish up my prerequisites.

Humber college is too far of a commute, I would be on the road almost 3 hours a day. I plan to apply to Six Nations Polytechnic in Ohsweken (they collaborate with Mohawk) and it's only 37 mins driving distance from where I live. I also will apply to Fanshawe in Woodstock. That's a 55 min drive but at least less than an hour.

Ohh, wow I thought you were taking high school courses for pre-requisites. That's tough.

Don't give up yet! I know I have not!

Well, I am actually taking ACE courses: ACE - Chemistry - CHEM-0004-55-08F

ACE - Math - MATH-0010-55-AT08

So those are grade 12 courses for college entrance.
