Should I become a CNA while I'm taking my 2 years of prerequisites for RN School?

Published

I just graduated high school, and I'm super excited to start taking my general ed/prerequisites for the RN program. I need to have 60 credits to apply so it should take about 2 years.. I was thinking maybe I should go to school to become a CNA in the mean time so I can work and get experience in the field while I'm getting my general ed done.

Let me know if you guyys think this is a good plan or not!! THANKS :)

I did BSN pre-reqs, phlebotomy, and worked on a non-nursing bachelor's degree while on a wait list for an ADN program. It all worked out because I got withdrawn from the wait list for not taking the TEAS V in time (took the TEAS 4.0 and was irresponsible about taking the V) but it all worked out because I got into a BSN program and I have gained a lot of experience in the mean time working as an ER Tech. Any experience will benefit you, especially if you are going to be waiting anyways!

I would definitely do it if you can. I am considering challenging the exam here in FL and doing it myself, if for no reason other than to gain valuable medical experience - the word on the street is that new RN grads with zero previous medical experience have a very hard time finding jobs - even ones with a BSN rather than an ADN.
