has there ever been a time where you end up short on nurses and short on cna's? where you end up doing both nurses job and cna jobs?

I work in a small unit. Nurses are not exempt from doing anything that needs to be done just by virtue of being a nurse. We have CNAs most of the time, but there is nothing a CNA does that we aren't expected to do as well.

I have never seen a hospital where nurses do not also do the duties of CNAs if none are available. After all, such work falls under the realm of nursing. Having CNAs is pretty much a luxury in these times of budget cuts, short staffing, etc.
