Shoreline CC Fall 2013 Hopefuls?

Published

I know the application period does not close until early April, but I have my application in and am going nuts just waiting to hear. Anyone else applying? How were your application points? Let's keep in touch and pass the time!

Erin- Thanks so much for the tips. You mentioned that the class was doable, even with a 4 year old kid, just need to work hard at it. Do you notice that any of your classmates work? I'm prepared to work hard for this program, but I want to get an idea of how much work I might be able to get away with once school starts.

You can work while going to SCC but you need to have a flexible and understanding employer. I worked 20 hours per week for the first two weeks of nursing school (orientation) then went back to full-time work - evenings, weekends, etc. Difficult but doable. I would say that at least 75% of the students did not work the first year of school but after summer nurse tech jobs, at least 50% of the students were working 10 or more hours per week in the second year. You get used to the routine of classes, clinicals, and papers by the end of the first year. Forming study groups is more difficult when you are working but I would highly recommend. Small group (3-4) meeting an hour before classes worked really well for me.

Hi,

I am also planning on applying to Shoreline Community College next year. I am currently taking my pre-nursing classes. My main concern is the class schedule ( I have 4 kids and plan to work at least 1 day a week) . I saw one post stating that some days you have classes from 630am to 330 pm. Is this everyday? What is your schedule like? Do you have day offs? I am not concerned about the hours I have to spend studying, etc... only the hours I am expected to be at school or hospital (so I can plan for childcare and really start thinking of how much this will affect our kids). If you could give me the most detailed schedule you can I will really appreciate it :) THANK YOU!!! Also, if any of you goes to North Seattle CC, what is your schedule like?

Thank you!

Hey, BacktoSchool, we could be classmates! I'm delivering my application to Shoreline tomorrow. At first I thought I'd apply as a fallback but now it's my first choice. I gambled on my application by submitting a work verification for a job I had taking care of a neighbor's mother. The neighbor was an R.N. and I had quite a bit of responsibility, including delivering pain meds. I chose to submit documentation of this job instead of one with no association to health care because it gave 2 more points but I'm worried the school may deny me credit for it since I wasn't working for a business. When did you get your application in and what kind of experience did you submit?
