Can anyone tell me about nursing in Sheffield? Also, anything about the city and surrounding area?

I can't tell you about nursing in Sheffield, only my experince as a visitor to the Hallamshire and Childrens Hospital.
( I presume you mean Sheffield South Yorkshire not Penzance Cornwall?)
Sheffield is a great city, lots of nice shops and is near to MeadowHall (a big shopping complex. It has lots of concerts and is a lot larger than the surrounding towns. It used to be a steel based industry but is now more buisness based, and is a thriving city in South Yorkshire.
And as it is up north, you are likely to get a warm welcome, I practically grew up in the childrens hospital visiting my sister and I have fond memories of the city.
I can't think of anything else specific, but here are some website links:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire/
http://www.hallamfm.co.uk (local radio station)
Hope that helps
thank you.

I trained at Sheffield when I converted to RN. The university does the training but the nursing school is not based in Sheffield but outside at a place called Dearne Valley, but nursing placements are done at a few surrounding hospitals i.e Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley. You have a choice of placements hospitals and if I remember rightly if you for example pick Sheffield as your base then you will have hospitals in sheffield for your placement and if you choose Barnsley as your base then you work at hospital in Barnsley. I trained in Barnsley and the hospital is continually expanding and experienc is varied.
Living in a city might be a bit more expensive than living in a town. The travel service within the various places are not too bad, they have their ups and downs and within South Yorkshire there is plenty to do and see.
Hope this is of some help. PM me if you want any more info.

I am currently doing my advanced diploma in nursing studies at sheffield university based at manzers campus. Sheffield is a great city with some of the best hospitals in the UK, most specialities are catered for in the city plus there is great shopping and night life, i moved here 6 years ago and haven't regretted it. Living expenses are high in the city but there is lots of accomodation available. Good luck!
