Sharp New Grad Interview

Hello everyone,

I have an interview coming up for Sharp Grossmont's residency program for Medical Intensive Care Unit and would really appreciate any information/advice/tips regarding the interview process. If any one has gone through this, I would really appreciate your help. I have applied for many new grad programs and would really appreciate any help since this is my first time getting an interview.

What questions did they ask?

Who was part of the panel interview (Unit manager, Charge Nurse, etc.)

How long did it take them to decide who got hired?

Usually the director and/or manager, maybe an educator. Honestly every place is different. Usually there is a screening interview with HR, then at least an interview directly with the hiring person, and then a separate panel interview with 2-3 nurses on the unit who will ask you their own questions.

Be prepared for behavioral interview questions. Use the search option to find "New Grad Nurse" interview questions and "Behavioral" interview questions. Then begin writing down and practicing your answers with someone. Or post what questions you find and how you would answer them here and then you can get some more specific and helpful feedback.

Again, every place is different. It can vary from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. At least that's been my experience.

One thing that usually works well is, at the end of the interview, asking if they allow potential new hires to shadow, and if so, ask if they'd be willing to schedule a shadow day. They may say no. No harm in asking and that can set you apart from other new grad nurses and communicates to them that you're really interested in a position that will be a good fit. Plus you'll have more time with the staff and be more memorable.
