This pandemic is different for everyone. As part of our 2020 celebration of National Nurses Week, we want you to share your COVID-19 stories. This can be a story that was past on to you, something that you experienced yourself, or just anything you want to share. If everyone shares a story we could have a picture of what everyone is going through in their parts of the world.

I live in Florida. With my partner we have four children – seven, six, four, and our youngest is only two months old. Our youngest has pretty much lived his entire life and quarantine. A month ago and made the tough decision to stop working locally and instead take a position in New Jersey. As hard as it is to walk away from my children in this pandemic, coming home every single day and putting my children and partner at risk is not something that I could do. I don’t know how I would live with myself if something happened to any of them.

This past month has been one of the hardest of my life. Every day I see another death and then go back to an empty hotel. These are the moments where I want to go home and hug my children but I know that they’re safer without me there. I missed Holden’s first smile. Payton has her first wiggly tooth. In the long run I am making the best decision for our family but knowing that there’s nothing I can do for them in this situation except not be there, is very difficult.

People need to realize the sacrifices the nurses, doctors, all healthcare works are making. We’re missing our family, memories, milestones, births. Coming from a state where quarantine means “Let’s all go to Publix!” No one realizes how valuable life is and that small changes will LITERALLY SAVE LIVES. Hopefully this post - and the other healthcare posts here - will impact at least one person. It only takes one to save a life.

I recently completed school waiting to write my licensure exams when the COVID broke. At first most of the populace thought our weather conditions and our make-up will save us.It was not until the disease started spreading that people saw the essence to stick to the guidelines. Even so, the untimely death of people known and unknown tells us that no one is immune to it. Until we accept to do the right thing and stay home, this disease will continue its spread.
