I created a quick survey (should take less than 2 minutes to fill out) for an upcoming presentation that I need to do. This survey does not collect any personal or corporate information, it is not used for marketing, but it let's you chime in on the highs and lows of working in Home Health. If you have 2 minutes, your assistance would be more than appreciated.

Again, this is for a presentation that I am preparing for in 2019 for a few state and national associations on the difference of perception from management and field staff.

Therapist, nurse, mental health, office staff, aide

2. What is your #1 Achilles Heel in this industry

Transportation to pts, government regulation, documentation of visits, reimbursement

3. Do you work for multiple home care agencies?

4. Do you currently use an electronic form of documentation?

6. What do you love about home health?

Ability to set your schedule, ability to assist a pt outside an institution, Paycheck, other

7. If you could eliminate one aspect of your job which would it be?

documentation, driving, working for multiple agencies, home environment

1. What best describes your job?

RN Case manager - uh I guess that means nurse

2. What is your #1 Achilles Heel in this industry

Currently it is brutal driving times because of the area I work in. The reimbursement is excellent and the company is a real joy.

3. Do you work for multiple home care agencies?

Just the one

4. Do you currently use an electronic form of documentation?

Yes - We use Pointcare

5. Do you track mile for reimbursement?

Yes. easy to document on the chart and add non-visit travel as well

6. What do you love about home health?

The autonomy, being out and about in the community, the time I can devote to teaching, focusing on one patient at a time and the money.

7. If you could eliminate one aspect of your job which would it be?

I detest non-responsive PCPs.

8. If you could design or change an item what would it be?

I would love a specific nursing bag with custom designed pouches to organize all the wound care supplies, ostomy, foley, blood draw stuff etc etc.

4.) No. Still paper. Only the settlements are electronic.

6.) No "Reverend Mother" in my neck

8.) Doctors who reliable come, if you need them

I was a a nurse case manager and relief nurse director

2. What is your #1 Achilles Heel in this industry-Doctors do not understand what skilled home health is. Can't believe that most computer software programs are not efficient and takes up too much time. Also how can one see patients most of the day and then everything else done.

Why don't companies offer company cars and offer better salaries.

6. What do you love about home health?I love the autonomy, teaching patients on safe home disease mgt, and figuring out how I can help the patients. I make a difference. So rewarding.

7. If you could eliminate one aspect of your job which would it be? using my car! Traveling 3/4th of the day. Less duplicate documentation.

8. If you could design or change an item what would it be? Better software programs. Shorter work hours for nurses. Have 2 nurses team up and make the visits.

Working in pairs would be amazing. I saw a lot of gnarly stuff running 911, but I always had a partner with me who had my back and vice versa. I have thought often that with some of the situations we run into we are in as much danger and we have no one to bounce stuff off of. A second set of eyes would improve care substantially. I don't imagine that is an achievable dream tho...

Most home health nurses are today dealing with HIGHER acuity patients and these patients deserve more time. I do not understand how nurses can do such quick admissions on elderly patients who are very ill. If nurses reconcile every medication (look at every pill container etc.) and observe patients performing physical activities how can they be done in an hour. A few younger less complicated patients admissions can be much quicker, but they are rare.

Also do not understand how non home health companies can offer vehicles for their employees, but most home health agencies cannot offer a vehicle.

Just seems that field clinicians in home health are do not get many perks like other non clinical managers in the medical field, Without the field clinicians -the agencies would have to close.
