Mar 29, 2013 I'm realizing/have realized that what makes a really good nurse is __________.1. compassion and caring2. empathy3. being willing to double and triple check4. not backing down when a MD is irate because you dared disturb him with a problem at 2:00 AM5. sometimes crying with and being willing to hug a patient or family member6. being willing and able to set down rules (and adhere to them!) when the patient becomes rude or out of control.7. ditto for family members8. being willing to extend yourself and give when there's nothing left to give... not because you have to but because you're a caring decent human being and they still need you9. Cleaning up the meds room and cart yourself instead of leaving all your crap and crud and sticky who-knows-what for the next shift
