*Shame* Understanding Freshmen/Senior Status- and Loans!

Okay, I've recently finished my first year of my school's RN program. *jumps for joy* But I ran out of personal funding along time ago =P I'm just now starting my journey to seek internship, and hopefully my own personal space (appartment time!) before my parents are the demise to my success.

Which leads me to my first question. I feel so ashamed but I dont know how to tell if I'm a Junior or Senior in college, does it go by credit hours or how many years you have left until you're finished (like high school)

I already recieve federal assistance (FASA) Pell-Grant from my school and it covers all the needs as far as books/uniforms/tuition. However, I've found the hard way that there aren't many living-assistance programs for my persuasion. I've been getting this FASA Aid for about a year now but they can't do much more. I'm driving almost 4 hour total just to make it to one class  So it's like 7 hours a day just to go to one class =( I guess what I need is a loan.

What are some TRUST worthy and student friendly loans TYPES without co-signers needed! I just dont understand the hoopla of loans this interest rates that. I want something I can have a grace period after I finish with also. =)

Have you applied to other scholarship programs (that aren't given from filling out FAFSA)? As far as needing a co-signer, that will depend less on the loan type and more on your credit rating.

Oh, and I judge what class you're in by when you graduate.

I think it depends upon how the school sees it. I have a Bachelors already. I just finished term2 of NS and I am listed as a sophomore.

You need to go to your school's FA office and apply for Stafford loans, both subsidized and unsubsidized. These are low interest student loans backed by the Fed Gov't. The subsidized is the one where the govt pays the interest on the loan until you graduate. The unsub is where the interest accrues while you attend school (thus causing a balance greater than your original loan amt by the time you graduate). If you are a "sophomore", then you can borrow up to $9500/yr. There is a qualifier with that....your parents will have to apply for and be denied a PLUS loan. If they don't your borrowing ability is less. Either way, there is no credit check or income requirements.

Repayment of these loans begins 6 mo after you graduate (to give you time to get a job and on your feet).

Hope that helps!
