Currently in BSN program. Please let me know if there is any specific information you want to know. I am happy with the program so far. Someone said there is no dedicated pharmacology class and they are correct that the onus is really put on us to learn it on our own. The trade-off is that it is a two-year program as opposed to a 2.5 and 3 yr program which made it worth it to me. SFSU and SJSU have similar NCLEX pass rates so no differences there. I am happy with my clinical sites so far as they have me at Stanford and Moutain View, which is nice on my commute times as I'm currently living in SJ. You don't have to move if you do not want to as I know plenty of people in my cohort with a 45+ minute commute. The school will give you a preceptorship in your 4th semester, and you will be able to put in a "wish list" of specialties (except for Peds unless you're an ELM) and/or clinical sites. You make not get what you wanted on your wishlist, but the last cohort did say that the majority of them got something on their wishlist. You do not have to "find" a preceptor as some nursing school horror stories may have said.
Hope this helps with your decision. I was also accepted into SJ and had to make the same choice you are making now. Bottom line is that both schools are great and will make you into a great nurse!

Hii... thank You so much for the feedback. I would like to know what hospitals do you guys do clinical other than stanford? I also didn't see preceptorship on the Roadmap during the 4th semester. There is classes that you take during that semester; how does the preceptorship goes alongside that?

I also am accepted to SJ and other 5 CSUs  but I really want the 2yrs program in SF. I also live in SJ; I will either commute or move there.

So for hospitals, the program trys to place you in hospitals near your home address, so because I live in SJ I am familiar with the south bay clinical placements and not really the SF or oakland clinical placements. I know there are clinicals at El Camino (Mountain View), Mills-Peninsula, SF General, Stanford, CPMC, Highland, and a dozen or more community sites.
Your preceptor ship would be the same as your capstone which is in the 4th semester roadmap. The  capstone is actually very flexible, as you work with your preceptor to create your schedule around your classes and you choose how many hours you want to work. I do not remember the required amount of hours, but let's say its 135 hours. I know some people schedule 30+ hour weeks in the beginning of the semester, so they are pretty much done with clinicals after the first month and can use the extra time to study for NCLEX....while other people schedule 8 or so hours a week for the entire semester.

Hi, I got accepted into sfsu for fall 2023 and was just wondering if you can provide any insight into the program because I can't really find any information. I'm trying to decide between sfsu and sjsu and I'm having trouble ? Can you please tell me how your experience has been so far at sfsu's nursing program? How are clinicals like? Do you get a preceptorship and if so, do you get to pick which specialty? Do you like the instructors? What does the first semester's schedule look like? Anything would help!!

Hey! What were your stats ?

Hey everyone, this is one of the nursing programs ill be applying for in Spring 2024. I'd like to hear about your guys' options on the program! How is it going so far? Do you like the program?

I'll also be living in dorms so how's the student life? Are other social or do they just keep to themselves and go home? Are there many activities?
