Senior Practicum in OR

I am going into my 4th semester of school. I got my assignment for our senior practicum, and I will be in periop. I will be switching between pre-op and in the OR for 3 week (96 hours total). In second semester I got to spend a few hours in periop and saw one procedure. So I'm not really sure what to expect or what will be expected of me. It was fascinating and exciting. I've considered OR since before I started school. But the whole time I just felt in the way. I would love any advice on how to make this the best experience I can and hopefully learn a lot. If it goes well, I like it, and I'm a good fit, there is a good chance I could get hired there after school. Thanks for any help!

    Ask lots of questions and do lots of research. You'll have to go through the initial training of learning to scrub/instruments/circulating. But further in look at the OR slate for the next day and search up the procedures you'll be doing. Research them in detail of the steps that occur (will help you a lot when you scrub for the procedure), or print off the surgeon's preference card to know what they like for that procedure. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Good luck the OR is a whole different world of nursing :) but a good one!
