Seneca part time Jan 2015 - declined

Hi everyone,

I just heard back from Seneca regarding my application, and I've been declined for the Jan. 2015 start. I'm currently taking the Chem pre req. When I spoke to someone at the college for part time admissions before applying, I was told that if everything was good with my application except for the Chem, they would be able to offer a conditional acceptance for the January start, based on my successfully completing the chemistry requirement. But, in my decline letter, they've told me they do not offer conditional acceptances.

Has anyone else had a conditional offer through Seneca? is this a thing, or did the original person I spoke to not know what she was talking about? I'm just confused with the mixed messages I'm receiving from the college and am wondering if my decline was based on something else.

In any sense, I am still plugging away at this chemistry, and will re-apply for the spring start. I'm really bummed because I'm older (36), so any delay in starting is putting me back that much more, ya know?

Hmm, that's strange. This could be a number of things though. I've never had any experience with Seneca in particular, but I'll try to help you out as best I can. The first place you should look is your application on ontariocolleges.ca. How are you taking this Chem class? Night school? Adult learning? Online? When you're out of high school, you have to do a bit more work yourself in terms of making sure your transcripts are up to date. Under the education tab on ontariocolleges, you'll see a subtitle called "Declared Education." If the only thing under it is your high school transcript, that could very well be your problem. If that's the only thing there, Seneca might have received your application and thought you didn't have Chem at all and rejected you because of that. If this is the case, you may have to contact the institute you're currently taking Chem with and ask them to send your transcript to ontariocolleges. I hope that big jumble makes sense, haha.

If you end up trying this and it doesn't work, or if it has nothing to do with your application, you can always call Seneca. I'm fairly certain that most colleges and universities have no problem telling you why you were declined if you call up admissions. Good luck! I hope you figure out what's going on.

Thanks so much for your response. I ended up contacting Seneca admissions and asking for clarification since I was told by X about conditional offers and that was the only reason I applied for January start. To my surprise...I was informed that X no longer works at the college as an admissions coordinator! (Wonder what happened there?) I was also told they don't give conditional offers.

Regardless, I feel better having cleared that up since I was worried it was something about my specific application. I will most definitely be reapplying in the spring.

Happy studying all :)

Hi there, did you end up applying for spring start. Im taking chemistry and math currently at ILC and they gave me my progress report which i will be submitting my application with. My finals for these is next week, but deadline to apply is this friday:( i will include a letter with my application. Hope i will get in, coz waiting till Sep sucks, i am 33:(

Yes, I did apply with my current grades, and yes, the deadline was just this past Friday. The worse that can happen is they say no. In the meantime, I've started taking chem and bio through ILC. If I get a no for the spring start, then I've already gotten the ball rolling in prepping to have a strong application for a Sept start. If I do get accepted for the spring, then I can drop the 2 ILC courses and I'm only out $80. I'm reaaaaaally hoping I get in for a spring start, I'm all ready to go, all I need is the 'congratulations....' letter.

Good luck with your application, keep me posted on how it works out for you. :-)

i will keep you posted. i have applied for spring start too, and hoping to get in. we'll see.
