Self-doubt

Published

Hello, I'm a community college student who's worried about my class schedule. The first day of the fall 2017 semester is on Monday 8/28. I am not confident in my abilities now that I think about it. I will be taking (in this order): Trigonometry, Honors statistics, Chemistry 2 (elementary chemistry), and Anatomy 1. I believe that I will be studying six hours a day or so in awkward times around 3am. I didn't choose the time of my schedule wisely I would say. Mind giving me any advice or help boost my confidence? I have omega pills and potassium pills to help me in the long-run. Also, I will be participating in a Nursing club, as well as other clubs (more than 2). If anyone has a tough schedule this upcoming semester or can share a difficult educational experience in their life, please share. (-: It's nice knowing that I'm not alone in this.

Self-doubt can be normal at the start of any new semester. Excitement can be also. As you requested, I will share my schedule for this upcoming semester also starting on 8/28. I work full-time (36 hours/week) on nights as an RN. I am taking the graduate class acute pediatrics II and the accompanying practicum which will have 180-200 hours of clinical during the day time. My clinicals are two hours from my home so I will also spend a significant time driving. You are so not alone.

As far as advice, make a schedule and stick to it. Don't procrastinate with your studying. Don't spend hours at a time studying either. I would suggest spending fifteen to thirty minutes studying, taking a ten to thirty minute break, and repeat. You retain more information with repeated exposure over cram sessions. Look to learn how you learn and develop methods that help you retain information best. Some people do well with flash cards. Others do well with plain notes.

Best of luck!

Trigonometry is a prerequisites for a nursing program? Usually it's stats and college algebra. Are you doing the prereqs for a nursing program? Honors stats sounds like a high school class.

Have you consulted your advisor on what classes to take and the best order to take them in? Your schedule with 2 math and 2 science seems quite heavy. Normally you should have an English comp and humanities in there. I took 2 sciences at once and was fine with it, but I didn't have two heavy math in with it as well. Your prereqs just seem odd to me.

Thank you LovingPeds. I wish the best of luck to you too. Let's get this work haha... As for Lovinglife, Trigonometry is a prerequisite. And honors statistics isn't your ordinary statistics class. It is considered more in depth than the ordinary statistics class. In other words, I'm an honors student taking an honors course with fellow honors students as well (honors program). I am pursuing a BSN, so I must transfer (based on assist.org). And I haven't met up with a counselor prior to registering, but I met up afterwards. The classes I'm taking are alright according to the counselor. Although, she didn't seem too realistic or too credible when she discussed my schedule. Now that I think about it, there are students out there pursuing a nursing degree while completing their premed requisites (though I'm dedicated to nursing). I appreciate your concern! I will be meeting up with a counselor again to double check. And thanks for sharing your challenge. 2 science classes is something I've never done before. I forgot to mention that I finished up my last required English class this summer, so that's why I'm not taking one. As for humanities, well, I'm going to look into that. I took the classes I needed based on assist.org and the prerequisites I need to fulfill the transfer requirements. I hope that makes sense
