Seems to be a lot of TMCC negative feedback? Any good

I've read quite a few negative posts regarding Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno. I am prepping for entrance into a nursing program... maybe TMCC. I'm reading that the teachers are very unhelpful. It also seems that the an underlying (and unspoken) goal of the program is to force people to fail out. Any more positive experiences with TMCC?

Also- A&P summer course... can both be done in one summer? I can't access any of TMCC's old summer schedules.

Thanks!

TMCC usually has a higher NCLEX pass rate, but students and grads that I've talked to tend to say that their instructors were very difficult, many people failed out, and every semester they lose many students. This is all hearsay though, I went to UNR. I think my education was just fine and I finished my BSN in 3.5 years from start to finish.

I took much of my pre-reqs at TMCC and I took A&P I in the summer and I'm pretty sure they offered A&P II during the second half, but I took chemistry instead. This was back in 2005 though.

Wow. Negative? I'm a TMCC graduate. As with any program, there is negativity among students. Usually over questions on tests, questions on their care plans, or the difficulty of the program. Maybe some that take things to personally when they should be focusing on themselves and getting through school. I am in no means trying to justify some of the negativity you hear from students in the program. It can just be amplified by some students that it affects.

Unhelpful - I never felt that while i was there. If i needed help, it was available with the instructors. Forcing people to fail out? It is true that we've had our fair share of people who didn't pass classes while in the program. They were readmitted and most of them did get through the program.

My experiences were positive. I did my work and studied. I did all that was expected of me and I passed. It is a good program that teaches you critical thinking and other nursing skills. Although L+D and Peds was my weakest semester, i had a close call with the finals.

A+P can be done in a summer. Just don't enroll in any other classes :)

If you get into the TMCC program. Don't set yourself up to be disappointed. You need to look at it as a stepping stone. I honestly think it's a good program. You will be tested though.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure a lot of the negative feedback I was reading had some other things going on.
