Greetings,
I am just now starting a 4-semester Psych NP MSN program this fall. I was hoping for any advice from seasoned Psych NPs regarding study habits, managing family and academic life, clinicals, preparing for licensure exams, and networking for post-graduation contacts. Any insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated?

We don't give advice and the insight will come from you.
Okay.
Seriously though you probably already know how to study if you have a degree. Managing your family life is something only you know the answer to. What specifically do you want to know about clinical that your school will not provide? Preparing for licensure exams...you mean certification exam I'm guessing, well you study all the review material for which ever certification you are going for. Networking for post-graduation contacts? Well you network, which is a lot easier now that we have the internet. If you're a PMHNP you'll get lot's of job offers. Don't worry about that. Might want to consider doing family psych though. Although I don't want to treat kids, that decision has kept me out of Alaska and Indian reservations because they want someone who can treat all ages.

I am in school with 3 teenage sons, work full time and school full time. It can be done. I have 2 more semesters for my Adult NP. I want to get my post masters in psych as it is my first interest. Like zenman said you have to work it out for your own schedule.
thank you both zenman and gettingbsn2msn for your posts. yes of course, it will all work itself out. like you gettingbsn2msn, i will be working full-time with a 13 yo and a 13 month old. lord help me!
it is a "family" program so it sounds as though that will definitely increase my marketability. just curious zenman, why don't you like working with children? is that the case for most psych nps?

Well, I do have this nice little orange target that rolls when I shoot at it down range. It's fun to watch kids chase it. I just don't like treating the little boogers, and especially their parents who want you to "fix" little Johnny. I think in our class of 20 only 1-2 went the family route. It's hard enough treating adults.
